The International Baccalaureate (IB) Program
The International Baccalaureate (IB) program is a system of syllabi setting forth the objectives in each course and examinations based on the concept that general education at the upper secondary level should encompass the development of all the main powers of the mind through which man, interprets, modifies and enjoys his environment.Upper School
The Upper School offerings and requirements are designed to build upon those of the Lower School and develop even further the important educational and thinking skills. The students are provided a thorough exposure to all the major academic disciplines, the mastery of which are prerequisites to entering top quality colleges and universities.
In the course of the 11th and 12th grades, students undertake advanced in-depth studies aimed at qualifying them for the International Baccalaureate program in the disciplines they choose.
Within these guidelines students are free to choose courses which most interest them, but we believe that the emphasis of a secondary school curriculum should be breadth in the early years increasing in depth at the later years (grades 11 and 12).
Middle School
Starting in school year 2005, St. John’s created the middle school for the developing or emerging adolescent years of age 11 to 13 to help bridge from the Lower School or elementary program to the Upper School or high school program.
In the Middle School, students learn within a supportive interpersonal structure which they are accustomed to from their elementary years but with the teacher subject specialization inherent in high school.
Lower School
The curriculum in St. John’s is college preparatory. In-keeping with the school's philosophy, it reflects the responsibility of the school to prepare the students for eventual college entrance. Implementation of the curriculum goals and objectives is done by certified teachers using a variety of teaching methods and materials that are current and are proven effective.
