PlayWorks was born out of a simple love of working with children with special needs and their families. PlayWorks Inc. is a private practice of professionals offering physical, occupational and speech therapies that enhance our children's individual capabilities and foster their independence. Our licensed therapists provide services to children at our fun-inspired, state-of-the-art clinic in Rego Park, NYC and at schools across the Tri-State Area. We provide services to children ranging in age from babies, toddlers to young adults. Comprehensive assessments, customized intervention, family support and consultation services are available to our clients and the community.
PlayWorks Inc. also offers many multidisciplinary programs designed to create valuable learning and life experiences for children with special needs to help them participate more fully in the community. Accreditations:
All PlayWorks therapists are licensed. We are approved by the NYS Department of Health to provide Early Intervention Services for children 0-3 years. We are also approved by the New York City Board of Education to provide Related Services for preschool (3-5 years) and school-age children (5 years and older).
Pediatric Therapy Program:
Specialty Therapies include:
* Occupational Therapy: Our Occupational Therapists help children with play, work, fine-motor and self-care activities to improve independent function. Sensory Integration is a specific therapeutic intervention that requires specific training
* Physical Therapy: Our Physical Therapists facilitate a child's age-appropriate gross motor skills. Therapy focuses on improving muscle flexibility, muscle strength, balance and coordination, endurance, motor planning, motor control and body and safety awareness. Treatment regimes include: stretching, strengthening, gait training, balance and coordination training, sensory integration, and object manipulation skills.
* Speech Therapy: Our Speech / Language Pathologists help children with articulation, oral motor skills, feeding issues, language comprehension, and phonemic awareness. Our therapists also work with the child to improve their attention span, critical thinking, social and play skills.

Located in Manhattan, New York, The School for Strings has been New York’s premiere Suzuki-based music school since 1970, providing outstanding instrumental instruction in violin, cello, piano and fiddle to thousands of children and teenagers. In agreement with Dr. Shinichi Suzuki’s ideas, the School’s philosophy is that through the study of music, all children can achieve beyond their expectations. Dr. Suzuki's educational precepts are based on his conviction that every child can be educated and the corollary assumption that every child will be educated. Success is built into his approach, both in the manner of teaching and in the choice of repertoire contained in the volumes of the Suzuki Violin, Cello and Piano Schools.
Children learn the fundamentals of classical music: rhythm, melody, harmony, tempo, dynamics and articulation. By fostering close collaboration between parents, teachers, and students, we aim to build the love of music, self-confidence, discipline and outstanding achievement in every student. In Suzuki study therefore, children learn to play their instrument at first by ear, learning the music they are to play by extensive listening to recordings of each piece.

Harlem Academy, located in East Harlem at 1330 Fifth Avenue in New York City is a private elementary and middle school serving grades one through eight. Our mission is to prepare bright, motivated students for success at top secondary schools and lifelong learning. At our school dedicated families, teachers, and supporters work together to provide educational opportunity to children whose potential might otherwise go unrealized. Established in 2004 with a first grade class of 12 students, one grade is added each year, as the school builds toward a vision for an elementary and middle school program in Harlem that matches the standards of any independent school in New York City.
Harlem Academy’s elementary school program was developed through a grant from the Goldman Sachs Foundation in partnership with Columbia University. This allows access for low and moderate income families based on a sliding scale formula for setting tuition.
