The Media Theatre - Broadway Musical Theater Camp:
Located just west of Philadelphia in Media, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, The Media Theatre - Broadway Musical Theater Camp offers theatre, acting and voice classes for young children of six years upwards as well as teenagers. Students develop an ability to improvise and to bring one's own personal and honest response to the text or the script. All acting classes within The Media Theatre School of The Theatre follow an 8-week schedule are based on the Sanford Meisner Technique, which follows the mantra "Acting is living as truthfully as one can under an imaginary circumstance."
The mission of the Media Theatre Company is to promote and nurture the imagination, diversity, and joy unique to music theatre by the production of new and classic works; to herald music theatre to young people as an art form that is relevant to their lives and to foster an understanding by them that it is indigenous to their cultural heritage.
What we do is inspire lives, improve lives and educate through music theatre! Not only do we have a full season of mainstage Broadway musicals and children's programming, we also have a highly respected summer camp for ages 6 and up, plus a teen camp each summer which produces its own musicals.
We also have a Delco Idol contest during summer months, so that young people ages 14-24, who may not otherwise have an outlet for their talents, have the ability to showcase themselves and their favorite songs in any genre onstage in front of hundreds of people with positive feedback from entertainment specialists and local community leaders.
The School of Theatre uses the Meisner Technique with basic premise that "acting is living as truthfully as one can under an imaginary circumstance." This is a liberating premise for all who want to perform, and for those who wish to use this training for personal improvement.
Meisner Training is an interdependent series of exercises that build upon one another. It assists in developing an ability to improvise and to bring one's own personal and honest response to the text or the script.
This is great training for adults who must speak in public as part of their livelihood or for youth who wish to develop and maintain an honest integrity toward their work onstage. It certainly is not about mimicking or imitation, but rather about finding the truth to a situation within yourself. With the young children, repetitive theatre exercises are utilized to build and strengthen their personality through self-expression and working with others.
