Academics:

SAS prepares students for the demands of college and life through a rigorous academic program that focuses on critical thinking and advanced writing. Realizing the value of a core curriculum, SAS emphasizes English, history, mathematics, science, foreign language, and the arts. Classes are focused on active learning with teachers facilitating as students seek answers to complex questions.

Basic requirements for graduation include four years of English, three years of mathematics, three years of history, two years of a single foreign language at the high school level, physical science, biology, one year of the arts, Introduction to Religion (a highly academic course focusing on student research), and Life Issues (ninth grade). Traditionally, students go well beyond fulfilling minimum requirements and partake in electives, including Environmental Science, Geology, History of Western Philosophy, A History of America’s Civil Rights Movement, Theater, and a multitude of independent advanced-study opportunities.

Science at SAS is lab and field based allowing students to experience science rather than merely study its theories. In the arts, students have opportunities to take advanced courses in all disciplines. Art, music, and theater may be taken for academic credit.

Students may choose to take AP exams each spring, most commonly in calculus, English literature, and French language. Students routinely receive scores high enough to provide college credit or advanced placement.

College Preparation Courses:
We also offer College Preparation Courses for SAT and ACT.

Arts:
St. Andrew’s-Sewanee has long enjoyed a strong reputation for its arts programs, an integral part of the curriculum. Students can enjoy classes in visual arts including studio art and clay, music and theater.

Athletics:
St. Andrew’s-Sewanee offers all students the opportunity to develop their athletic skills, to reach their athletic potential, and to enjoy sports through team membership, competition and participation.

Baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball, wrestling are among the key sport activities at SAS.

Worden Aquatics
Courses / Programs
Worden Aquatics offers private, one-to-one swim lessons to adults, children and individuals with special needs throughout the Greater Nashville area.

You can learn to swim on-site at Boost Fit Club in Belle Meade in south-west Nashville, or at your own home pool.

Our swim instructor serves students in Davidson, Maury, Williamson, Dickson, Cheatham, Roberston, Sumner, Wilson and Rutherford Counties.

Our swimming lessons are private and we enjoy working together with the student to develop their swimming skills and goals. We will assess and instruct each student but also accommodate specific requests.

Founded in 1936, Memphis College of Art (MCA) is a professional center of art and design education in Shelby County, Tennessee. We are dedicated to preparing individuals for lives of creating, problem solving and critical thinking. We offer Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree programs in photography, digital media, design arts, fine arts with concentrations in painting, photography, sculpture and drawing among others. Memphis College of Art also offers Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and Masters of Art in Teaching and Education.

Turning Winds Academic Institute (TWAI)

Located in northwestern Montana, Turning Winds Academic Institute (TWAI) is an accredited, family-run, therapeutic boarding school for troubled teens (boys and girls) ages 13-18 from Tennessee and across the United States.

In our beautiful, peaceful, and safe location, we combine the benefits of a therapeutic boarding school, a wilderness program, and a residential treatment center (RTC).

TWAI has been serving struggling teens and their families since 2002, with an exceptional degree of success.

We provide an extremely high standard of therapeutic treatment to our students, and offer help for the following presenting issues: poor academic performance, behavioral problems, addictions, low self-worth, spectrum disorders, ADD/ADHD, and attachment disorders among others.

With a passion for helping young people in crisis, our clinical, educational, and operations staff are among the best in the country.

We are a small program (40 students) which means that we are able to provide a truly unique and customized approach for every student.

Typically our on site student to staff ratio is 5:1. The average stay at our residential treatment center is 12 months.

We create a customized program for each student that requires a minimum of 3 months. However, best results for lasting success are realized through 6+ months of treatment.

TWAI graduates average a 3.5 GPA. It is common for a student to complete 1.5 years of course work in 1 year.

Dark Horse Institute in Franklin (15 miles south of downtown Nashville), Tennessee, is an audio engineering and music production school providing students with real-world training. We can teach you everything you need to know to get started in the recording industry in 12 weeks.
