The King's School, Manila:
The King's School is a British Curriculum international school conveniently located only 15 minutes drive from downtown Makati and serving the expatriate community in Manila. The school is currently open for children aged 2 to 14 years and will expand over the next few years to include A-Levels and IB. We are dedicated to providing a British education in an international setting.
King's is governed by the British Schools Group, an organisation that aims to promote quality British-style education worldwide. The British School's Group is a member of The Federation of British International Schools in South East Asia (FOBISSEA), and is accredited by the University of Cambridge Examination board, and is registered with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority in the UK.
Our Vision:
All of our teachers are committed to delivering the very best of the UK curriculum. We also understand that for this to be successful there has to be an emphasis upon the enjoyment inherent in learning.
A major strength of our school is its rich cultural mix, with children from a wide variety of countries. Our children learn to make friends and mix with people from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds making it an ideal place to prepare for life in a rapidly changing, increasingly multi-cultural world.
Small class sizes combined with our policy of restricting the number of EAL students to a maximum of 20% in any class means that you can be sure that your children will be getting a truly British education.
Year groups are divided into three distinctive areas:
- Early Years: Pre-Nursery, Nursery and Reception (age 2-5)
- Primary: Years 1 to 6 (age 5-11)
- Secondary: Years 7 to 18 (age 11-18)
Guiding Principles:
- To motivate our students to explore the extent of their intellectual and physical abilities.
- To uphold the values of honesty, integrity and respect for others.
- To provide a vibrant, happy and secure environment.
- To recruit, retain and develop high caliber staff.
- To promote the general good within our community.
- To safeguard the long term development and reputation of our organisation.
The British Schools Group is one of the largest networks of British International Schools in the world. Its mission is to provide excellent British style education in an international context. Each school in the Group shares common management, principles and policies aimed at ensuring high standards in all aspects of school life; from academic performance, to high quality facilities and excellent conditions for staff.
The British Schools Group currently manages 9 schools spanning 3 continents and 7 countries. BSG was established in 2003 with the opening of The British School of Beijing. BSG is now made up of schools in Moscow, Kuala-Lumpur, Sao Paulo, Manila, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Marbella, Pamplona and Tashkent.
At our school we value sports as an activity in itself and as a means for learning a range of transferrable skills and abilities. Pupils do sport several times a week. A wide range is on offer including team games like football and basketball and individual sports like golf or sailing. The sports programme is supported by outside specialist teachers.
Swimming is a core activity and so regular lessons begin in Pre-Nursery and continue in every year group beyond. Matches and competitions are common events at the school and take place both internally and against other schools. Selecting the best team is likely to be secondary to ensuring that every child gets a chance to compete.
Whilst we celebrate success in competition, the school also rewards good teamwork, effort and sportsmanship.
Learning to play a musical instrument is an excellent way to gain an appreciation for music. For this reason every child at The King's School from Year 1 (age 5) onwards learns to play an instrument
The result is a vibrant musical environment. Pupils are encouraged and are provided with many opportunities to offer performances both individually and in ensembles. With break times and other free moments often being used for practice, it is not uncommon to hear music in school most of the day.
Our full-time music teaching staff is supported by outside specialists to ensure pupils have a range of instruments to choose from and are taught at the appropriate level.
Our instrumental music programme complements the music taught as a class subject in every year group as part of the curriculum.
The King's School views after school activities as an integral part of the education of our students, and to that end offers a wide range of clubs that aim to introduce the child to potential hobbies, develop particular sports, provide language or IT support and on the whole inspire an interest in areas that perhaps they would not be exposed to through normal curriculum time.
After school activities are compulsory for every child at the school. Parents are asked to choose two clubs per term, usually representing a balance between active/sport and more intellectually inspiring programmes. Every student is required to stick to any given club for at least a term, reinforcing the idea that any commitment to learning must be followed through.
