Academic Standards:
The Harvest Curriculum is very flexible; it can be effectively taught in different modes of classroom instruction, no one mode being the best method for all students in learning situations. The modes include a "one-on-one" method of instruction, where the teacher instructs a number of individual students at different levels. The Curriculum can be used with small groups, where several students at the same or different levels are working together. They can also be successfully used in the larger, more traditional types of classroom. When teachers "mix and match" these different modes of instruction to meet individual student needs, each child's education can be truly "personalized" . The school incorporates independent and group projects as a teaching tool to stimulate the development and creative and imaginative thought of the student which also leads to Self-Discipline .

The Curriculum:
The curriculum is built on the concept of Mastery Learning utilizing a Spiral Design of instruction. It provides systematic review (repetition of basic concepts and skills) at three levels . The first is reinforcement of the material within the module itself. Testing is cumulative, requiring the student to recall material from the previous sections, thus creating a constant "spiraling" review. The second level of the spiral is found in the relationship of material between different academic subjects.

For example, language arts skills, as well as concepts taught in the Bible, Science and Math are integrated throughout the entire curriculum. The third level of the spiral is the review of the same material within a subject at higher levels. Academic content learned at higher levels is an expansion of, and based upon, similar skills and concepts mastered at lower levels.

Mastery Learning is based on the premise that optimum learning occurs when students truly "master" the content or skills taught in one learning experience before progressing on to the next one. This concept varies substantially from traditional / conventional academic programs, where students grouped together by chronological grade level progress through the same academic material in the same amount of time; real mastery is seldom experienced by all students in such a program.

The curriculum with its teacher-directed activities, self tests and mastery test, is designed to ensure that mastery learning is a reality for each individual student. The many module activities and questions require students to go beyond objective recall and to draw conclusions that require a conceptual understanding of the material, thus the student is challenged to develop higher level of analytical and evaluative thinking .
