The German Section starts with Kindergarten and ends with an accredited German degree after Grade 10 and the IB Diploma at the end of Grade 12.
Kindergarten and Preschool:
We believe in a well-balanced, holistic education that acknowledges your child as an individual, and supports all aspects of the development of your child.
At the Kindergarten and Pre-Primary School, we aim to foster the belief that when children relate to things and events based on their own experiences, they interests are piqued, the experiences come alive for them, and what they learn becomes their own. In order to achieve this, the following elements are fostered, encouraged, and enhanced:
* Sociability/ Socialization
* Self-confidence
* Cognitive Development
* Creative and Deductive
Elementary School:
At the elementary school we offer a demanding programme which is based on the pre-school of the kindergarten. We offer continuous tasks which are project-oriented and based on subject-related learning. We believe that children should not only be able to formulate complex questions, but also be able to find the answers to these questions themselves and discover ways of solving them independently.
Today’s world is continuously changing and challenging. Therefore, the most important task of the school is for students to discover a life long joy in learning and to educate them to become responsible citizens. We believe that each individual can develop an understanding for the world, himself/herself and for others through inquiring, discussing, deciding, and thinking.
Seconday Level:
The secondary level I lasts from the 5th grade until the 10th grade with the possibility of transfer to the grammar school level (Gymnasium). This level is attended by around 60 Students (average taken from the last years). It is run as a grammar school with integrated classes. The learning schedule of Thüringen is valid for the grammar schools. This applies to all German schools abroad. It is discussed more in detail among the German-International Schools in Asia.
International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme:
The German European School Manila offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme for students in Grades 11 and 12. What distinguishes our school from other IB schools in this part of the world is the distinctly European flavour of our curriculum with English, German and French as standard languages.
The IB Diploma is a qualification that is welcomed by universities in Europe, the US, Australia and most other countries worldwide. If certain requirements are met, the IB Diploma is recognised as fully equivalent to a German Abitur obtained from a school inside Germany.
Ecole Française:
Ecole Française de Manille belongs to the network of the Agency for French Education abroad (AEFE) which regroups around 430 educational establishments worldwide.
Preschool:
The French preschool program enjoys an excellent reputation as it provides an original curriculum for the early years (as young as 2 years of age), being designed to be a transition from family to school.
This first stage in the French educational system fulfills three primary objectives which clearly show the intricate nature of its educational and social roles : going to school, learning to socialize and how to learn and do things.
Elementary School:
At the age of six, a child enters the elementary school where he spends five years during which he will mainly learn reading, writing, arithmetic and further improve his skills in English and computer science. Arts and sciences are also included in the curriculum.
The Basic Learning Cycle places emphasis on the acquisition of languages -- French and Arithmetic – and key concepts in civics and in relating to learning around the world. It also leaves plenty of room for the development of motor functions and sensitivity.
Secondary level - Collège – from grade 6 to grade 9 - “Le Brevet”:
From 11 to 15 years old, students attend lessons taught by specialist subject teachers (French, Mathematics, English, German, Spanish, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Social Science, Technology, Sports, Music and Arts) among whom one is their homeroom teacher.
The educational system has for rule to guarantee that all students acquire a common trunk of competencies and knowledge in the following seven domains :
- the French language
- one other foreign language
- mathematics and sciences
- humanities
- information and IT
- social sciences and civics
- autonomy and initiative spirit
Secondary level – Lycée – from grade 10 to grade 12 – “Le Baccalauréat”:
Students who plan to apply at a school of higher learning or a university will study at the Lycée and decide in grade 10 , according to their interests and capabilities, if they will later opt for a general scientific, economic or artistic orientation, or if they will shift to a vocational orientation.
For a vocational shift, students will enroll in a technical or vocational Lycée. The French School Lycée caters only to students who opt for the general orientation who, at the end of grade 10, decided to continue in grade 11 either with a scientific section S (mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology) or an economics section ES (economy, history, geography) or a literary section L (litterature and languages).
Students start preparing the Baccalauréat exam in grade 11.
