Each Milpark qualification and course is offered through specified delivery mode(s).
Distance learning / contact learning:
Milpark Educationoffers education via both contact learning (face to face, classroom-based tuition) or via distance learning (students receive the learning material and are supported either through workshops, or through tutor contact made telephonically, via email or online). Distance learning offers the student flexibility so that s/he is able to study after hours. This method of study is ideally suited for students who are also employed.
Full-time / part-time study:
Full-time study means that students attend classes on a daily basis during the day. Thus the full-time students are not usually employed and, as they are either recent matriculants or school leavers, are able to attend classes daily on a full-time basis for the number of years required to complete the degree. Part-time students are usually employed and so generally tend to be able to complete fewer modules over a longer period of time. Most part-time students choose distance learning programmes as this mode allows for more flexibility.
The content and focus of the Milpark Masters in Business Administration (MBA) is reviewed regularly in line with recent national and global events, community challenges, threats to the environment, and the need for managers to be well equipped to address the immediate needs of business and industry. Insights from the reviews inform changes and adaptations to the programme.
Changes to the programme:
All core disciplines were retained while adding and refocussing on the following:
• Two modules have been added in terms of responsible leadership: Business ethics and corporate governance and Leadership and change management.
• Social Responsibility and the Environment is a new addition and deals with the responsibility of business to society, the environment and sustainability in the South African context.
• Global Trade has a stronger focus on trade in/with developing countries such as BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China).
• Integrated Business Strategy places a strong focus on the demonstration of integrated business and managerial skills addressing all areas covered in other modules.
Foreign students who need to attend classes in South Africa but do not have permanent residence in South Africa or who are not South African citizens must consult their embassy/ Department of International Relations/ South African Embassy for specific prerequisites with regards to the legal requirements for registration with a South African academic institution. This includes matters such as study permits, medical cover and English language proficiency. The embassy/ Department of International Relations/South African Embassy will provide information about the application procedure.
Students enrolling via distance learning do not need to comply with any visa or residency requirements. Admission and registration will be concluded at a distance. Study materials will be couriered to the student’s country of residence and support will be provided via distance methods as well. Take note that students will be liable for additional costs in respect of courier and examinations.
Note: The relevant South African law states: "In terms of the Immigration Act No. 13 of 2002 as Amended and its Regulations, any prospective student to the Republic of South Africa, must provide proof of medical cover with a medical scheme registered in terms of the Medical Schemes Act, 1998 Act 131 of 1998."
