Curriculum:
The curriculum decisions we make involve questions about how children learn, what learning is appropriate, and when it is best learned. Our curriculum takes into account the many sources of research, knowledge of child development, individual characteristics of the children enrolled, and the knowledge base of various pedagogues, the values our culture, parent’s desires, and the knowledge children need to function competently in our society. We have developed a rich, meaningful content to our program while utilizing developmentally appropriate practices. We place emphasis on cognitive development where the child has opportunities to make decisions. Children reinforce learning by repetition and internal feelings of success. Multi-sensory materials for physical exploration are provided with hands on exploration where divergent thinking is being stressed as this leads to synthesis – the highest form of learning.

Learning Environment:
To meet the developmental needs of children from infancy through school age, Holmdel Preschool offers six learning environments where children have the opportunity to grow and develop at their own pace, to feel comfortable with themselves and their teachers in supportive surroundings. Classrooms are bright and cheery and have age appropriate learning materials. Materials are chosen for their educational value, quality and versatility. Bathrooms and hand washing facilities are in each classroom.

Each learning environment has specific goals to help us assess each child’s progress at his/her own pace toward social, emotional, physical, intellectual, and creative maturity. Learning and social/emotional goals are the basis of our planned activities and daily program. Holmdel Preschool staff and parents work together as partners in each child’s educational journey.

Part of our learning environment includes an opportunity for the children to have fresh air and exercise on a daily basis weather permitting. Our playground is fully equipped and has an area for children three and younger and another for children four and older to enjoy and have gross motor and socialization opportunities. It is fenced for security and safety and organized to provide adequate supervision for every age.
