The Wardlaw-Hartridge School:
The Wardlaw-Hartridge School, located in Edison, Middlesex County, NJ, is an accredited, independent, coeducational, college-preparatory day school offering Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 programs. Wardlaw-Hartridge today is a school with an honored past that looks forward to a vital future. In some ways, we are not a typical independent school. We fly the flags of literally dozens of nations that represent the recent ancestry of our diverse student body. The student art that enlivens all of our hallways is rich with these multiple influences and traditions.
Early Childhood Education - Academic Program for Children Ages 3 to 5:
Small classes and an enriched academic program provide Wardlaw-Hartridge girls and boys with an excellent foundation for growth. Children are guided to extend mastery of basic skills of reading, writing, mathematics, and problem solving. Continuity throughout the program and skill-building from year to year coupled with individualized attention yield self-confident, enthusiastic learners.
Lower School (Pre-K through 5th Grade):
Learning in PreKindergarten through Fifth Grade occurs in small, self-contained classes. The classroom teachers provide a challenging academic program that includes language arts, math, social studies, science, and skill development. Textbooks, literature, cooperative hands-on activities, and manipulatives help children investigate various types of learning. Special projects, activities, and trips stimulate intellectual curiosity and critical thinking.
Middle School (Grade 6 through 8):
Hands-on learning and energetic student involvement are encouraged in the Middle School. This is true both in the classroom and on the athletic field. An advising system builds bonds between students and faculty while the bonds between parents and faculty established in the Lower School are continued.
Upper School (Grade 9 through 12):
As a college preparatory community, The Wardlaw-Hartridge Upper School provides the final stage in preparing students to succeed in demanding college programs. At the same time the Upper School goes beyond a narrow concept of “college preparation” and educates students in the broadest sense of that term. Its aim is that students possess those qualities—intellectual, aesthetic, social, and moral—that are necessary for an individual to achieve his or her potential. Wardlaw-Hartridge graduates are well prepared for success in college and leadership in life, and with an appreciation of the school that helped them on their way.
