Summer Wilderness Programs in New Mexico
Cottonwood Gulch Summer Expeditions:
Based in Albuquerque NM, the Cottonwood Gulch Foundation provides a wide range of educational wilderness expeditions and outdoor summer programs for kids and teens ages 10-18, as well as Family programs and Adult programs. Our wilderness expeditions take place in the heart of the American Southwest, and promote personal growth, scientific, historic, and cultural discovery as well as a knowledgeable environmental ethic among all those who participate.
We have been leading wilderness expeditions in the Southwest since 1926. Our groups visit different ecosystems of the Four Corners states: New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado — red rock canyons, high desert mesas and alpine ranges — to play and explore. We explore mostly on foot, backpacking and day-hiking into the back-country, but we also sometimes canoe through river canyons.
What to Expect on a Wilderness Exhibition?
The Wilderness of the Southwest
This is a place for those of us who need to get our hands and boots dirty in order to understand this beautiful land. We take you on world-class backpacking excursions, but the Gulch is much more than that—we also explore Southwestern art, archaeology, reptiles, and dinosaur bones.
The Culture of the Southwest
In addition to hiking, backpacking, and rock climbing, the Gulch will take you through the 1,000-year-old walls of Chaco Canyon, teach you to paint the same landscapes that inspired Georgia O’Keefe, or help rebuild a Hogan or weave a rug with our Navajo neighbors on their farm.
The Ecology of the Southwest
For Trekkers who are inspired to learn even more about the Southwest, we hire naturalists every year who work closely with individual trekkers to develop hands-on projects in geology, herpetology, ornithology, or any other –ology that piques your interest.
Based in New Mexico, our Summer Expeditions range from 2-6 weeks, and are for kids ages 10-19. No expertise is needed to join, just a sense of adventure and a desire to learn about the animals, art, and unique culture of the Southwest.

Located in McAllen, TX, the International Museum of Art & Science (IMAS) provides a wide range of STEAM based summer camp programs for children of grades 1-8. Topics for our unique 4-day summer camp courses include chemistry, creative writing, engineering, robotics, environmental science, and more! Registration fees include scheduled activities, supplies, a camp t-shirt, lunch, an afternoon snack, and exploration time in our exhibit spaces.
Our camps inspire and enrich the lives of children year after year. Campers don’t even realize they are learning because they’re having so much fun! Classes are held Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. Before and after care is available at an additional cost.

Camp Katy is a family owned and operated technology day summer camp with multiple locations in Texas for boys and girls ages 5-17. We provide week-long classes in 3D Game Design, Movie Production, Computers, Photography, Lego Mindstorm Robotics and more. Students may register for one, or multiple weeks at a time. • Enroll your teen in an intensive and interactive English language camp in Austin this summer or winter 2019! • Conveniently located in the West Campus area, close to Downtown Austin TX, HOFT Institute provides a summer ESL language program for teens ages 14+ from around the globe. (Students who are younger than 16 must have a parent or guardian with them in the United States.)
• The camp covers all language skills - listening, speaking, reading & writing with a strong focus on grammar.
• The camp also features fun activities combined with English language tutoring for beginner to advanced level students.
• A tourist / visitor visa is all that is required for our short ESL camps in Texas.

Situated just 15 minutes south of downtown Tulsa, Oklahoma, Camp Loughridge provides non-denominational Christian summer camp programs to boys and girls ages 6-13. Our 1-week camps are accredited by the American Camp Association.Day Camp programs are designed for kids ages 6-10, while our Adventure Camps are for boys and girls ages 11-13. Our activities and staff encourage campers to learn to walk with Christ in all that they do.

Located in the Jemez Springs area of Central New Mexico, just an hour north of Albuquerque, Hummingbird Music Camp provides week-long residential summer music camps to boys and girls ages 8-14. Beginner to advanced level group ensembles are offered, including: band, guitar, orchestra, piano and voice specializations. We also provide 1-week Art Camps and Chess Camps which run alongside our dedicated Music Camps.
In addition to musical activities, campers also take part in traditional camp events such as campfires with original camp songs and skits, overnight hikes, storytelling and outdoor cookouts.
Although music is taken very seriously at the camp, the focus is not on competition. Our campers are encouraged to grow musically on their chosen instruments by starting their musical instruction at their current level of ability.
Our Teachers range from undergraduate, graduate students and professional teachers. The majority of our instructors teach in public and private schools throughout the year. Most of the teachers teach two weeks at camp and return year after year. The average staff return rate is 95%.
