Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, College of Marin is a community college that provides a wide range of programs to students of all ages living in Marin, San Rafael, San Francisco, and the wider Bay Area. Located in Kentfield (3 miles south-west of San Rafael), our Department of Modern Languages offers quality instruction in a range of languages, including Japanese, Chinese, Spanish, French and Italian.
Japanese Language Programs - Elementary, Intermediate & Advanced Level:
The aim of our Japanese classes is to teach you how to speak, read, write, and understand Japanese. In addition, you will learn about Japanese culture, society, ways of thinking as well as a brief history and geography.
- Elementary Japanese I:
This is a course for beginners that offers study and practice in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing Japanese along with an exploration of the cultural aspects of Japan.
- Elementary Japanese II:
In this class, you will further develop your ability to read, speak, and write Japanese. You will improve your communication skills, increase your knowledge of Japanese culture and society, and learn 100 Kanji characters.
- Intermediate Japanese IV:
Continuation of the study and practice of speaking, understanding, reading, and writing Japanese. Completion of in-depth review of grammar, as well as readings in the literature, history, and culture of the Japanese people.
- Advanced Japanese I:
This course is aimed at expanding your knowledge of Japanese language, culture, history, ways of thinking and geography, through the study of advanced grammar, literature, essays and newspaper articles. Emphasizes the acquisition of an advanced level of verbal expression in discussion, reading and writing.
- Advanced Japanese II:
This course further emphasizes the acquisition of an advanced level of verbal expression in discussion, reading and writing. In addition, it aims to further expand your knowledge of Japanese language, history, culture, ways of thinking and geography, through the study of advanced grammar, essays, literature and newspaper articles.
