Mission Statement:

Photo of Private School in Chester County, PAGuided by the essential Quaker calling to seek out and honor that of God in each of us, Westtown School challenges its students to realize their individual gifts while learning and living together in a diverse community. Westtown inspires and prepares its graduates to be stewards and leaders of a better world.

What is Quakerism?
Quakerism originated in mid-17th century England. George Fox, founder of the Society of Friends, and his followers were dissatisfied with the hierarchical nature of worship at that time. Fox and his fellow seekers believed there was that of God in each person – the Inner Light. This direct access to the Divine Spirit eliminated the need for clergy, elaborate buildings, or a prescribed religious service. Quakerism arose from within (although in protest against) the Church of England. Today the religion remains part of the Christian tradition and receives inspiration from the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.

Our Campus:
Westtown School is located today on the same 600 acres purchased by its founders in 1795. An oasis of forest and farmland in the midst of suburban Chester County, the Westtown campus supports both riparian and woodland habitats. Its forests, streams, lake, fields and gardens are sources of study, recreation, and nourishment for both body and spirit of the students and adults who attend campus.
