German European School Manila, Paranque:
The German European School Manila (GESM) situated in Paranque, northern Philippines, is a German and English speaking international school that offers programmes from Early Years to IB Diploma (Grade 12). It also offers a bilingual toddler programme for children starting age two. The school has a German Section that caters to German speaking students and a European Section for English speaking students. Both sections lead to the IB-Diploma Programme.
European Section PYP:
The European Section opened in August 2007 as an additional section to the German School. The language of instruction is in English and we cater to English speaking families who wish to pursue an international education.
GESM is accredited as a Candidate school for the Primary Years Programme of the International Baccalaureate Organization. This organization was founded in 1969 by the International Schools Association in order to develop a truly independent international curriculum and philosophy for international schools.
The students follow a Programme of Inquiry made up of six consecutive units the students work on through the year. These units are based around six organizing themes, big ideas about our world and who we are. Through this framework the student becomes familiar with the organizing themes and develops a greater understanding of the world around them.
German Section:
The German Section starts with Kindergarten and ends with an accredited German degree after Grade 10 and the IB Diploma at the end of Grade 12.
Since 1982, the Primary and Secondary level of the German Section has been recognized by the conference of the Education Ministry of Germany. The school belongs to the many branches of the German international schools in Asia and Australia as well as to the world wide German schools.
Our extensive networks and our support for each other ensure mobility of our students within Asia and Germany and support the continuity of their German speaking education worldwide.
The students study towards an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, which is at par with the German "Abitur".
IB Diploma Programme:
GESM offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme for students in Grades 11 and 12.
What distinguishes our school from other IB schools in this part of the world is the distinctly European flavour of our curriculum with English, German and French as standard languages.
The IB Diploma is a qualification that is welcomed by universities in Europe, the US, Australia and most other countries worldwide. If certain requirements are met, the IB Diploma is recognised as fully equivalent to a German Abitur obtained from a school inside Germany.
The IB Diploma Programme aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Students are encouraged to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
This is achieved through a balanced education: students choose one subject from each of the six subject groups. These six academic subjects are integrated and supplemented by three core elements: The Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge (TOK) and the CAS programme, which involves students in arts, sports and community service work.
The primary medium of instruction is English. Students with a very good knowledge of German are eligible for the bilingual Diploma course (GIB), which is supported by the German government.
