Catlin Gabel:
Catlin Gabel, located 5 miles west of downtown Portland, Oregon, is a nationally recognized progressive independent day school offering Pre-school through Grade 12 programs. Catlin Gabel has been at the vanguard of teaching what matters since the school's earliest days. What we do comes down to small class sizes and the relationships students have with their teachers. No one gets lost in the crowd. As we like to say, there is no back row.
Catlin Gabel supports inspired learning leading to responsible action through dedicated teaching, caring relationships, a challenging curriculum, and community service. We value each person’s effort, imagination, and positive contributions to the community. We celebrate being inclusive and the partnership between family and school.
About Us:
Our curriculum and approach is based on the philosophy that every person has unique talents, and that students thrive in a safe, social, and supportive environment with strong student and teacher partnerships. We seek to bring together students of diverse backgrounds who are excited about learning, hold promise for future accomplishment, and participate cooperatively. When considering an applicant we consider factors such as teacher recommendations, individual assessment, previous school experiences, standardized test results, and qualities of character.
Libraries:
Our school provides three libraries to serve the needs of Catlin Gabel's students, faculty and staff. The Beginning & Lower School library, Middle School library, and Upper School library are each tailored to the curriculum and developmental levels of the groups they serve.
Each library is managed by a librarian and assistant librarian, who, in close consultation with members of their school division, select, purchase, and maintain an impressive collection of materials. The libraries are designed to support both curricular needs as well as our students' pleasure reading. Our libraries provide books, magazines, newspapers, and research databases for all levels of inquiry and research, and feature a wireless network and a wonderful web-based Follett Destiny catalog.
