Westside Montessori Center, Toledo:
With three campuses in Toledo and Perrysburg, within the Great Lakes Region in Lucas County in northern Ohio, West Side Montessori Center is a private school for children thirteen months through eighth grade serving the communities of Toledo, Sylvania, Perrysburg, Southeast Michigan, and surrounding areas. The Montessori method uses a hands-on approach that follows the child’s natural development. The curriculum is based upon the methodology by Dr. Maria Montessori and combines a rich academic program with life skills that focus on the development of the whole child.
We offer:
- Programs for toddlers through 8th grade
- Little House Porgram (13 months to 3 years)
- Pre-Primary Program (3 to 6 years)
- Lower Elementary School (Grades 1 to 3)
- Upper Elementary School (Grades 4 to 6)
- Middle School (Grades 7 and 8)
- Subjects include math, English, science, social studies, foreogn languages, music, P.E.
- After School Program with flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet lessons or involvment in band
- Child Care available on a regular or as needed basis between 7:00 am and 6:00 pm
13 Months through 3-Years:
* two-, three- or five-day classes
* child care available on a regular or as needed basis between 7:00 AM and 6:00 PM
* toilet training is not a necessity
* multiple sensory activities
* activities to develop independence, coordination, concentration and sense of order
3 to 6 years:
* mixed-age groupings (three-year-olds, four-year-olds, and kindergarten children)
* full day classes available (for three- and four-year-olds) which include nap or play time
* full-day kindergarten (for children five years old by September 30) with field trips, computers, advanced science and geography activities, and additional foreign language classes, music and physical education classes
* developmentally appropriate curriculum in math, language arts, science, geography
* special classes in music, French or Spanish, and physical education
* hands-on activities
* sensory learning, everyday living skills, and art
* classes five days per week
Grades One to Three:
• mixed-age groupings (six-to nine-year-olds)
• students collaborating in the learning process
• lessons in small groups
• geology, biology, botany, and zoology introduced in the context of history
• classes in foreign language, art, music, and physical education
• computers in the classrooms
• performance in musical productions and artist-in-residence programs offers an extraordinary opportunity for creative expression, teamwork and fun
• carefully designed, hands-on learning materials
• independence encouraged by giving children the opportunity to make choices
• enriched curriculum focusing on the formation of the universe, the history of time, and our relationship to the planet and all its life forms
Grades Four to Six:
• mixed-age groupings (nine- to twelve-year-olds)
• special classes in foreign language, art, music, computer, and physical education
• performance in musical productions and artist-in-residence programs offers an extraordinary opportunity for creative expression, teamwork and fun
• optional after school private flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet lessons, and ensemble group
• independent investigations and research projects
• computers in the classrooms, integrated into the curriculum
• verbal expression and writing emphasized
• mathematics curriculum presents advanced concepts including geometry
Grades Seven and Eight:
• mixed-age groupings (thirteen- to fourteen-year-olds)
• integrated, project-oriented, theme-based curriculum
• field trips and hands-on learning plus participation in community service programs
• a forum for adolescent issues and values
• personal responsibility stressed within a democratic community of students and teachers
• a three-day off-campus experience builds teamwork, trust, and a cooperative spirit
• optional after school private flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet lessons, and band
• small school environment, developmentally appropriate for twelve- to fourteen-year-olds
• a peer group that values education
