Pre-Kindergarten through 12th Grade Programs:
Lower School:
The Lower School program at Seven Hills offers families two distinct options for students in grades Pre-K through 5: Doherty School on the Doherty Campus and Lotspeich School on the Hillsdale Campus.
Both programs are designed to stimulate curiosity and to foster self-confidence, both are blessed with talented and compassionate teachers thoroughly trained in fostering the intellectual, social, and emotional development of young children, and both provide carefully sequenced curriculums to nurture the acquisition of basic skills.
Both programs are rich in opportunities for exploration and self-discovery, and both feature bright and stimulating learning environments with state-of-the art technology and a wide array of special courses in Spanish, art, music, and drama, science and global awareness. Both provide strong learning support and developmental guidance programs to meet the needs of students across a wide spectrum of ability.
Middle School:
The Middle School years are a whirlwind of activity, a time of rapid intellectual and personal growth when students begin to discover who they are and what they want out of life. At Seven Hills, ours is an authentic Middle School, not a junior high school. In a safe and warm facility, among students their own age, and guided by teachers who know and love kids this age, our students encounter a myriad of learning experiences designed to encourage them to explore both the world and themselves.
Here learning is a process of self-discovery in which, each day, our students, often working together in pairs or teams, use a wide array of instructional technologies to set about seeking the truth of a given situation. Initially concrete and infinitely more comfortable with their own immediate experience, they are encouraged to venture farther from home: to ask probing questions, to design experiments, to get their hands dirty. They gather information, they sift through data; they theorize and debate and then field test their tentative understandings by sharing them with each other in a warm and affirming environment.
Upper School:
With 100 courses offered by seven departments, Seven Hills Upper School students are exposed to a remarkable educational feast, one that provides an increasing degree of choice as they progress through the curriculum. College preparatory, honors and AP courses are taught in a wide range of subjects, and advisors help students choose the array of classes that best suits each of them. Core subjects include math, science, history, English, computer science, fine and performing arts, Chinese, Spanish, French, Latin, P.E.
Our students read classic and contemporary literature, learn to express themselves effectively in writing and in speech, and develop an understanding of how to present a convincing argument whether the topic involves the analysis of a novel or the defense of a science experiment. They study trig functions and cell biology, parametric equations and optical phenomena. They not only learn the details of history but use it to explore the implications of the past for life in the 21st century.
As they immerse themselves in the study of French, Spanish or Latin, our students come to understand and appreciate other cultures. As they explore choral music or improvisational theater or graphic design, they develop their own artistic vision. As they learn individual and team sports, they experience the benefits of keeping fit.
Throughout the curriculum, students pursue ideas, hone skills, and experience the rewards of intellectual discourse. By the time they graduate, Seven Hills students view themselves as accomplished and independent learners, ready for a rigorous college curriculum.
Scholar Award:
The Seven Hills School is proud to be able to offer a number of academic scholarships to incoming Middle and Upper School students. We seek strong, dedicated students whose academic commitment, strength of character, and leadership skills will further enrich our learning community.
College Preparatory, Honors and Advanced Placment Courses:
Students can choose between a wide range of honors and advanced placement courses in English, math, science, social studies and languages as well as having opportunities throughout the year to prepare for PSAT, SAT and ACT tests.
