ALPI Language School:
Founded in 1495 during the first wave of European colonization of the New World, Santiago de los Caballeros is the second largest city in the Dominican Republic. This city is referred to as La Ciudad Corazón (Heart City), because it is located at the heart of the lush and scenic Cibao Valley. Majestic mountain ranges straddle the city to the north and south.
ALPI occupies a modern and spacious five-level building situated in the heart of downtown Santiago where you'll find internet access, a teacher's resource library, conference rooms, classrooms with video and audio equipment, and the ALPI administration offices. A primary downtown attraction is Calle del Sol. Known as the city's main shopping district, the street is stocked with shops, hotels, restaurants, bars and an array of vendors. Walking distance from ALPI is the “zona monumental”, where much of Santiago’s vibrant nightlife can be found.
Often compared to Santo Domingo, the city of Santiago is comprised of natives that prefer a less chaotic and more purposeful lifestyle than its counterpart in the south. Santo Domingo is far more congested, humid and sooty, while Santiago maintains the rhythm of a large town rather than the anonymity of a bustling metropolis such as Santo Domingo.
Home to over 750,000 people, the center of this historic and laid back city proves to be the cultured downtown area where ALPI language school is situated. Walking distance to the center of the city's nightlife, and easy transportation to local cultural centers. Santiago is the perfect "hub" for those wishing to travel around the island as it is close to the north's sandy beaches, the central region's lush valleys and mountains, and there is easy access to air-conditioned public transportation to the capital in the south.
