General English Course:
International House runs a wide range of full-time and part-time General English courses in London for people wanting to learn English as a foreign language.
Our English language school focuses on learning through using and speaking English. Your teacher will give you tasks both in and outside the classroom to practise English in a variety of social situations.
The School of English offers daytime group courses in Standard General English for all levels, focusing on core English language skills. There are evening English courses for adults learning English, who need to fit their studies around other commitments. You can also take intensive lessons, or study English one-to-one , if you want to make fast progress or practise specific English language skills.

Exam Preparation Courses:
International House London offers a range of English for Exams courses, to help you prepare for and practise the English language skills needed for specific tests and certificates.
We run day and evening preparation courses for Cambridge examinations, including the First Certificate in English (FCE), Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE), and the Certificate of Advanced English (CAE).
You can also do your IELTS preparation in London at International House. Choose a one week, four week, or evening IELTS preparation course to help you get ready for the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) exam. International House is a recognised IELTS test centre, so you can also take the IELTS exam in London.
There are a variety of exam study options. You can take intensive lessons, or an exam-specific evening English course to prepare. Applicants are sent an entrance test before starting any English for Exams course.
Evening English Classes:
Our evening English courses are perfect for busy people living and working in London. English evening courses can help improve your language skills for work, for exams or just for daily use. You can take lessons on one or two evenings a week, from 18.30-20.30, so they’
re easy to fit around other commitments. Part time English courses in London can also be a useful top-up for overseas or longer-term students.
There are four different types of Evening English Courses to choose from:
- General English lessons are perfect if you need to get better at writing English or speaking English. These classes improve English language skills for everyday use, and are ideal for adults learning English at an intermediate level.
- Business communication and correspondence courses can help if you are learning business English. You will practise English needed for the workplace, by addressing common scenarios such as writing emails, giving presentations and interviewing.
- Pronunciation classes can help make you more easily understood when you speak English. Working in small groups of no more than six, we look at listening skills and pronunciation techniques such as where to put stress on words and syllables.
- Examination courses help you prepare for Cambridge examinations or the IELTS exam. You’ll improve your English language skills and get exam practice, tips and techniques to build your confidence.
Business English Course:
International House London offers a variety of professional English courses for companies and individuals learning business English. Our English for Business courses help professional people develop corporate English skills. Executive English group courses have no more than six participants, and the content is tailored closely to your needs. The challenging and practical course structure will improve English language skills, conversational ability, confidence and global cultural awareness. You can have intensive lessons to make fast progress, or study semi-intensively to fit around other commitments.
As well as business English group courses, we can provide corporate English training for companies, one-to-one executive courses, and professional English courses for specialist industries.
Practice English:
Improve your English language skills with English Practice Lessons at International House London’s Teacher Training Department. Classes are taught by student teachers who will help you practise speaking English and writing English. Student teachers are supervised by an experienced teacher and there are five teachers in each class. Practice English lessons are a valuable and low-cost way for you to practise English language skills.
