Western Town College in Vancouver is a private language training centre that offers a diverse selection of classes to help students improve their English language ability with a wide selection of choices for study. From our ESL, Teacher Training, Business, and TOEFL courses to Interpretation / Translation classes, students are provided with the tools that will help them step into the professional world once they complete their coursework at WTC. We pride ourselves on employing some of the strongest, most creative teachers in the field that engage and energize their class with their unique personalities and imaginative lessons.
Professional English Language Programs
English as a Second Language (ESL) Levels 1 to 7
New ESL students write a placement test and get an orientation on Start Day at 9:00 a.m. In ESL, each term lasts for four weeks. In our morning classes, students learn the fundamental grammar points necessary to communicate in English. Our lowest levels of grammar in Level 1 are suitable for beginners while our highest levels of grammar in Level 7 are suitable for students preparing to study at English-speaking universities. These classes focus on all the main areas of ESL: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Learning does not stop when classes finish at Western Town College. There are many exciting activities that students can participate in. Students are encouraged to be active and enjoy the city in which they live. The multitudes of activities are excellent opportunities for students to meet and make friends for life.
ESL PM Electives
Our afternoon classes are based on an electives system where students can choose classes appropriate to their level and interests. We offer classes in all skill areas, providing further opportunity for students to learn how to communicate even more effectively in English.
TOEIC Preparation Program
The TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) test measures the English proficiency of international students required to use English in the workplace. The Western Town College TOEIC Preparation course is designed to prepare students to write the official TOEIC test by teaching them successful test taking strategies. Students will learn vocabulary, idioms, and grammar structures used in the TOEIC test. One complete in-class practice TOEIC test is offered every month in addition to optional practice TOEIC tests on Friday mornings and afternoons. Students can register to take the official TOEIC test once per calendar month at Western Town College. Western Town College’s TOEIC program teaches students the skills they need to achieve the highest TOEIC score possible by teaching them both real-life and business English. Western Town College uses the most contemporary material and offers students many opportunities to practice similar exercises to those found on the official TOEIC exam, including in-class practice TOEIC exams.

TOEFL iBT Preparation Course
The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) test measures the English proficiency of international students wishing to study at colleges and universities in the United States and Canada. The Western Town College TOEFL Preparation course is designed to prepare students for both the paper and the computer-based (iBT) TOEFL tests. Students will learn vocabulary, idioms, and grammar structures used on the TOEFL test. They will also learn practical strategies for answering questions in the listening and reading sections of the TOEFL test. Two complete in-class practice TOEFL tests (paper) are offered every month in addition to optional practice CBT tests every Friday. Students will also be required to write practice TWE (Test of Written English) essays at home and in class.

Internship Program - Study and Work
Western Town College’s Internship Program is a mix of classroom study and real-life work experience. Combined with classroom training, this program is also designed to provide students with an opportunity to learn faster through service in various local businesses. The goal of the program is to provide an added educational experience outside of the classroom. The program is intended to provide knowledge, tools, and skills that can add to the educational experience of our students.
Introduction to Translation / Interpretation - Japanese and Korean
This Introduction to Translation and Interpretation Program is designed for high-level-to advanced English language students who are native speakers of Japanese or Korean, who want to learn the basic principles of interpretation and translation. Students learn about the profession of translating and interpreting and the techniques and skills required for working in these fields. Through the practice and analysis of a variety of real-life translating and interpreting tasks, students develop their language skills as well as an awareness of key issues in the field of applied linguistics. This program is taught by an experienced bilingual instructor.
