The Dublin Institute of Technology has a long history of providing education up to the highest levels for over 100 years. The Institute currently offers an extensive range of undergraduate programmes at Certificate, Diploma and Bachelor Degree levels and Postgraduate programmes at Diploma, Master and Doctoral levels. Today DIT has an enrolment of almost 10,000 full-time third-level students pursuing eighty programmes. In total there are more than 20,000 students (including postgraduate, part-time and apprentice students) attending DIT which is the largest enrolment in a higher education institution in the Republic of Ireland. DIT is a publicly funded institution of higher education and makes its own awards at Certificate, Diploma, Degree, Masters and PhD levels. The Dublin Institute of Technology welcomes international students. The International Student Office provides information and support for all international applicants and students.


Location and Facilities:

 

Photo of Institute of Technology in Dublin, Ireland There are seven libraries within the Institute. They are located at Aungier Street, Bolton Street, Cathal Brugha Street, Kevin Street, Mount Street, Mountjoy Square and Rathmines Road.

Hours of opening vary between libraries and according to the time of year. During term most of the libraries are open from 0930 to 2130 Mondays to Thursdays, 0930 to 1730 on Fridays and from 1000 to 1700 on Saturdays. Please refer to the notices at each library for further details. Also check library opening hours for regular opening times and for any changes.

DIT Library currently stocks more than 250,000 books and other items and subscribes to nearly 20,000 journal titles. The entire holdings of the DIT libraries, their locations and current status are displayed on the Library WebOPAC. This can be accessed in each library and via the Internet. Registered users may borrow from any of the libraries. Books and journal articles not in the DIT Library can be requested via the inter-library loan service.

The College of Naturopathic Medicine is one of Ireland’s largest, most highly-respected and well-known natural medicine training providers, with colleges in Dublin, Cork, Galway and Limerick. Our Naturopathy Foundation Courses (Biomedicine, Naturopathy Study, and Naturopathic Practical) form the basis of our training and provide CNM students with a firm grasp of Naturopathic principles and therapies, before proceeding to specialisation in Homeopathy, Acupuncture, and/or Herbal Medicine. For those studying Naturopathic Nutrition, Naturopathy Study and Naturopathic Practical are optional courses. We offer full-time and part-time study options. From a 1970s Regional Technical College to a modern-day Institute of Technology, GMIT has grown to become a centre of education competing on a national and international stage. The days of the student as a young, fresh-faced school-leaver are over. Students now come in all guises and education is no longer time- or location-dependant. The changes all point to a new emphasis on review and evaluation. Higher education institutes are being increasingly challenged to explain what they are doing, how they are doing it and how well it is being done. GMIT’s own personal story began on Monday, 18th September 1972 when the first students entered the new Regional Technical College building on Dublin Road, Galway. Enrolment on that autumn day stood at 1,213 students; registration has doubled and tripled to reach almost 9,000 students today.
