Sucre
The charming colonial city of Sucre (population: 250,000) shares the country's capital city status with La Paz which is the legislative and administrative capital, while Sucre is the country's constitutional Capital and the home of the Supreme Court. The city is considered by many to be the “Jewel of South America”, with its relatively low altitude of 2750 meters giving it a warm and pleasant climate year round.
Visitors to Sucre are generally greeted by the city's almost permanently blue sky, which provides a striking backdrop for the brilliant white buildings that characterize the city center. Sucre has a rich, varied history and a wealth of historical architecture deserving of its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Sucre is also a thriving university city, with its San Francisco Xavier University, founded in 1625, one of the oldest university's in the Americas.
The city also provides visitors with more than enough attractions, such as museums, shops and restaurants to keep even the most dedicated sightseer, shopper or food lover entertained. The city is home to a large indigenous population who maintain their traditional clothing and customs, while selling their crafts and goods in the city's markets and fairs.
Our Spanish School in Sucre is located close to Bolivar Park, just a few blocks away from the city's main Plaza and Central Market. Our school has several large classrooms with natural lighting, all of which can accommodate either individual or group study classes. The school also has a large airy patio where we offer regular extra activities such as, dance classes and language meetings, while most Friday nights we provide a barbecue with shared chuflays (a spiritual Bolivian drink) and traditional pisco sours. All our teachers are young, qualified professionals, well experienced in teaching Spanish courses in South America.
Cochabamba:
Cochabamba is located in central Bolivia in an Andean valley 8430 feet above sea-level, west of La Paz and north of Sucre. It allows easy access to all regions of the country, from the tropical lowlands to the arid high planes, as well as La Paz, the world's highest capital city. The city's most famous attraction is the statue of the Cristo de la Concordia which is perched atop the San Pedro hill. The statue is 109 ft tall (33m) making it the tallest of its kind in the world. Visitors can climb inside the statue for a unique view of Cochabamba, with cable car rides available from the city to the mountain top also providing a spectacular panorama of the area.
The weather in the city is generally mild and pleasant and is considered to be the best in the whole country, with warm sunny days and cool nights. The average temperature in winter is around 17° C (61° Fahrenheit), while in the summer the average temperature rises to around 26° C (78° Fahrenheit).
Our Spanish School is located in the Juan XXIII neighborhood of Cochabamba, just ten to fifteen minutes by bus from the center of the city. The Spanish language school is a one story building built around a small inner patio, with nine classrooms which are used for groups of up to three students or individual classes. Students who would prefer to take their lessons outdoors can either be accommodated under a parasol in the grounds or on one of our patios. In Cochabamba our students and teachers frequently socialize outside of class in traditional and cultural events, as well as excursions.
Our teachers are also happy join their students for a night out at bars or clubs if the students would like them to. As well as our Spanish language programs, our school also operates a program of optional excursions to areas throughout Bolivia. These excursions provide a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn more about the culture and environment of the country, as well as providing countless opportunities for practicing the Spanish they have learnt in the classroom.
