As a college of the National University of Ireland, Shannon College of Hotel Management offers two degree routes to an international business and hotel management career. Bachelor of Business Studies Degree in International Hotel Management (BBS):
The Bachelor of Business Studies Degree in International Hotel Management (BBS) is a four year degree program that comprises 6 academic semesters and 2 professional placements. Graduates of this course are prepared for their future roles as General Managers in the international hotel and hospitality industry or senior management positions in a wide range of industries. As entrepreneurship is encouraged at Shannon College, graduates of this course are also prepared to start their own businesses.
Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) Degree Course:
The Bachelor of Commerce Degree (BComm) combined with an NUI Diploma in Management (International Hotel Management) is four years in duration. Graduates of this course are prepared for their future roles as General Managers in the international hotel and hospitality industry and senior management positions in a wide range of industries. In addition, students completing this degree course can specialise in areas such as finance, marketing, information technology or human resource management. As entrepreneurship is encouraged at Shannon College, graduates of this course are also prepared to start their own businesses. Upon successful completion of their studies, graduates are awarded a Bachelor of Commerce Degree combined with an NUI Diploma in Management – International Hospitality Management by the National University of Ireland. At this stage, graduates can choose to work in a management capacity in industry or pursue postgraduate studies at University.
In both courses, students engage in intensive language training to prepare them for their professional placements overseas. Students whose mother tongue is English pursue either French, German or Spanish as their continental language. All other students study English. Students wishing to pursue French as a language option are required to attain a minimum of B3 at Ordinary Level in the Leaving Certificate. Shannon College actively encourages students to develop their linguistic skills as the ability to speak more than one language is a real advantage to any business graduate.
Foundation English Language Programme:
The Foundation Language Programme caters specifically for the English language needs of students who intend to enrol on the Bachelor of Business Studies in International Hotel Management degree course in the College. It is also suitable for students who wish to study for an undergraduate or postgraduate degree at any other English-speaking college or university.
