Selecting Shannon as the place to establish Ireland’s leading hotel school has proven to be an inspired choice. At the centre of one of Ireland’s leading tourist destinations, Shannon and the surrounding region has an impressive number of hotels, castles, golf courses, leisure centres, restaurants and tourist facilities, all of which require top quality managers to run their establishments.

The creation of the world’s first free trade zone in Shannon has enabled County Clare and the Mid-West region to prosper. Many leading multi-national companies have established their European operations in Shannon and Limerick. A new Information Technology Park is also under construction in Ennis, making the Shannon Region one of the most commercially diverse areas in Ireland.

Shannon College boasts an international airport on its doorstep, with daily flights to cities in Europe, the USA, and Asia. It is also possible to fly from Shannon to Dublin in Ireland, where onward flight connections to many other destinations around the world are available.

Aside from the neighbouring airport, Shannon has excellent travel connections within the country. Trains between Dublin and nearby Limerick and Ennis are available on a daily basis as are inter city bus connections that enable passengers to travel onwards from Shannon. Car owners can take the primary N18 route if they wish to travel to Shannon from Galway, Ennis or Limerick.


 

The Shannon College campus provides students with a range of services and facilities designed to support the learning environment. Chief among them are the library facilities. The College library offers an extensive collection of print and electronic resources relating to the study of business management and the international hospitality industry. The library is open weekdays from 9.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. and provides students with extensive reference and enquiry services, inter-library loan facilities and access to journal databases.

Internet facilities are available to all students once they have registered at the College. A wide variety of software is installed on the computers located in the computer suite and language laboratory. The multimedia language laboratory is utilised extensively by students, as language training and tutorials are a key element of all academic programmes at Shannon College.
As a college of international hotel management committed to excellence in teaching, the College is particularly proud of its Food and Beverage Building. This building houses a state of the art production kitchen, teaching kitchen and 65-seater restaurant.

Shannon College is committed to improving access for people with specific learning difficulties and/or disabilities to all its programmes. In addition to the current facilities available, the supports provided to people with special needs are reviewed on an ongoing basis.

The College provides access to a doctor on campus. To enable students to deal with personal problems, the College provides a confidential counselling service.
