Academic Summer School in South-West England
Academic Summer Limited:
With three locations across England, Academic Summer provides residential academic summer school programs in July and August for students ages 13-18. We run quality International Baccalaureate, GCSE and A-level preparation and revision courses, and welcome both British and international students. For summer 2013, Academic Summer will be located at Cambridge Tutors College in London; Sidcot School near Bristol; and Liverpool College in Liverpool.
Academic Seniors Programme - Suitable for students ages 13 to 18 studying towards the following:
- GCSEs
- A levels
- International Baccalaureate Diploma
25 different academic subjects offered including English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, History, Economics, the Arts, Sports & more.
Our Philosophy:
The philosophy of the course is based on Theory of Knowledge as studied in the International Baccalaureate. The areas of knowledge explored are: Sciences, Mathematics, Individuals and Societies, Literature, the Arts and ethics. The course is delivered by subject specialist teachers with additional training and qualifications in teaching English.
Our Teaching Approach:
The approach to the learning and teaching of English is communicative and follows the 'can do' skills descriptors of the Common European Framework. Preparation for IELTS gives a structure and internationally recognised outcome to the English language element of the course.
Academic Summer offers up to 4 weeks of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) for students aged 7 to 18, in the months of July and August. The philosophy of the course is based on Theory of Knowledge as studied in the International Baccalaureate. The areas of knowledge explored are: Sciences, Mathematics, Individuals and Societies, Literature, the Arts and ethics. The course is delivered by subject specialist teachers with additional training and qualifications in teaching English, the language of tuition.
English is developed through preparation for the IELTS and City & Guilds Exams and through being the medium of instruction of other curriculum subjects. Social interaction is encouraged by academic and social activities during and after the school day, thus incorporating aspects of the Creativity, Action and Service strand of the IB Diploma.
Administratively, the curriculum is organised into three blocks, each of ten hours a week:
- Theory of Knowledge and Sport
- Exam Preparation
- Academic subjects
For seniors, there is a choice of up to four subjects a week. We currently offer over 20 different subjects for students to study.
Academic Summer offers structured leisure programme including sports and weekend excursions to encourage cultural awareness and social interaction in English. We offer a wide variety of excursions and activities throughout the programme.

Residential Life:
Students live in separate boys and girls' boarding accommodation on the school campus. They are looked after by specialist teachers and experienced members of staff. The Principal lives on the school campus and is on call 24 hours a day.

Acorn International Summer School provides unique academic summer camps for both international and British students in Tockington, just 10 miles north of Bristol in the South-West of England.Based on the campus of an authentic British boarding school, we provide exclusive programmes for children ages 5-15.
