6-week summer engineering camp for high school students in New York, San Francisco or Houston:
Students create a project that they love from concept to prototype under the supervision of experienced engineers! Classes meet for 4 hours per day, 5 days per week. While the main focus of the program is on completing projects, it is supplemented with guest speakers, brief lectures, an entrepreneurship curriculum, and a Maker Faire exhibit where possible. These extra aspects to the program show students what a career in engineering is really like, and the diverse opportunities such a career offers.

- Primary Goals of our Engineering Program:

The primary goal for each BSE student is to build a working prototype of a project they find interesting (robotics, solar powered electronics, wind turbines, digital stethoscopes, etc.). BSE students will also develop all supporting documentation for the project (source code, CAD drawings, etc.) that would be necessary to fully replicate the project and post it on their own section of the BSE website. The BSE curriculum is centered on not only building a functional prototype, but also understanding the relevance behind the product. BSE students not only build, they understand the value behind their projects.

- Class discussions:
Why does engineering matter?” and the “Foundations of Entrepreneurship”. BSE will dedicate a portion of each session to discuss the projects the class members are working on, in addition to other topics which aim to help students to  understand how engineering can solve the biggest challenges the world faces today. These discussions will also include conversations around entrepreneurship and how aspiring engineers build businesses to commercialize their research. These conversations will comprise about 15% of the program.

- Guest Speakers:
BSE brings in 1-2 speakers per week that have inspiring, cautionary and entertaining experiences relating their careers in engineering and entrepreneurship to share with our students. BSE instructors also share their unique journeys of success and failure, drawing from their own experiences as high tech entrepreneurs. The goal is for students to gain a clear understanding of the career breadth and excitement that exists for engineers and entrepreneurs.

- Entrepreneurship:
“Be Your Own Boss”. Why do some start-ups prosper while many fail? BSE’s entrepreneurship curriculum introduces students to the basic requirements for starting a company and the keys to building the next great start-up. Students will create a business idea after gaining an understanding of what makes a successful start-up.
