Nord Anglia International School Rotterdam (NAISR):
Nord Anglia International School Rotterdam is a unique international school offering not only a quality education for 3-18 year olds, but also a nurturing environment in which students can feel comfortable, safe and supported in order to learn to the best of their respective abilities. The school year is comprised of two semesters extending approximately from Mid-August to December and from January to Mid-June. Admissions are open all year round.
Early Years Curriculum:The Early Year Program is an important transition to Lower Elementary. Children engage in a variety of learning activities designed to equip them with effective strategies for growth and development.
Differentiated instruction will be supplemented with hands-on activities and field trips that contribute to cognitive and physical development.
Elementary School Curriculum:
The NAISR Elementary School consists of Kindergarten through Grade 5, with the ages of the children ranging from five to eleven years old.
The Elementary School uses the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). Students are busy working in the different academic areas such as: Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts (English), Music, Physical Education, Art, Modern Languages, Library, IT, and swimming. The Elementary School program aims to provide an educational environment in which children are challenged to meet the highest standards of achievement appropriate to their relative individual stage of development.
Recognising the uniqueness of each child, the school is committed to teaching knowledge, skills and processes that will prepare each of them to function effectively in a rapidly changing world.
Middle School Curriculum:
The Middle School program at NAISR begins in Grade 6. The Middle School uses the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC).
We are very aware that for students at this stage in their education, the transition from a self-contained learning environment into a multi-classroom and multi-teacher day, although exciting, can often be daunting. All returning students will have participated in transition days at the end of grade 5 where they meet the teachers, and learn about the academic programs and schedule. They will also have had the opportunity to talk with Middle School students in informal sessions and shadow a current Middle School student for a day.
High School Curriculum:The High School (grades 9-12) curriculum consists of a core program in English, Mathematics, Science, Modern Languages, and Social Studies. During these four years, there are two distinct phases to our students' education.
In the pre-IB years of Grades 9 and 10, students make selections that will prepare them for the International Baccalaureate Diploma, a rigorous program that provides a framework for our curriculum and guides our approaches to learning.
As they move into Grades 11 and 12, most students choose to participate in the full IB Diploma Program. This program is a rigorous university preparation course of study that is recognized as meeting university entrance requirements in over 100 countries in the world.Students not choosing to participate in the full IB Program usually take one or two IB courses along with an array of other high school courses offered at AISR, which meet the standards for an NAISR High School Diploma.
Non-IB courses are available in all curricular areas and are taught at the level of a typical university preparatory course found in U.S. high schools. Virtually all NAISR graduates move on to university and their next level of higher education.
English as an Additional Language (EAL):
The EAL program at NAISR is a “sheltered immersion” program. Students are immersed (placed) in an English-speaking environment (our school) and are given support so that they can interact meaningfully in the classroom. All teachers at the school complement the program by helping to create an intercultural learning environment. The program provides instruction with an EAL teacher who helps children develop English proficiency according to their needs and their abilities.
