Remarkable Girls:
Remarkable Girls is a unique theatre program located on the Peninsula in Millbrae and San Francisco in Northern CA, offering classes, private lessons, and performance opportunities to girls ages 9-18 years. Remarkable Girls was founded by former San Francisco talent agent and performance coach Jan Downing. Programs are taught by performing arts professionals and include instruction in acting, singing, musical theatre, auditioning, and directing. Students not only learn core theatrical skills, but they also learn to take risks, increase their confidence through self-expression, and find their own voices.

Jan Downing (Founder / Director):
Jan Downing began her work with girls teaching musical theatre at The Girls’ Middle School in Northern California. In 2005 she directed The Little Prince at the award-winning A Company of Girls in Portland, ME. She has worked professionally in all aspects of the entertainment industry, both on the West Coast and in New York. As a performer she appeared Off-Broadway at the Chelsea Theater Center, with The Light Opera of Manhattan, and on TV’s All My Children.

Her vocal training includes NY coach Elizabeth Howell and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and she is a graduate of the prestigious Los Angeles Civic Light Opera Musical Theater Workshop. Her “behind the camera” experience includes heading the Commercial division as a talent agent at Stars, The Agency in San Francisco, casting for theatre, industrials, and voice-overs, and scouting “real people” for many national TV commercials.

Located on Lombard Street, San Francisco, CA, near the Bay, Presidio Knolls School is a non-profit Mandarin-immersion Reggio Emilia inspired pre-school. Our school comprises of a dedicated, generous group of parents and teachers who are committed to providing a multi-lingual, multi-cultural English and Mandarin Chinese environment where children can freely develop their gifts and interests. Since the inception of the school in February 2008, the faculty and parents have been working very hard to realize these goals. We serve families from Chinatown, Cow Hollow, Russian Hill, Pacific Heights and throughout San Fransico Bay communities.

Since the school was established, we have made great strides in implementing a Reggio Emilia inspired teaching philosophy in a Mandarin immersion classroom.
