The Grier School:
Located in Birmingham, east of Pittsburgh in Huntington County, Pennsylvania, the Grier School is a private boarding school for girls in grades 7 through post-graduate year and admits girls regardless of race, color, religion, national or ethnic origin. In addition to a college preparatory curriculum with AP courses and SAT and ACT college prep courses we also provide a learning skills program, an enriching arts program, an extensive athletics program, a horseriding program, summer school, TOEFL and ESL programs.
Residential Life:
At Grier, the dormitory areas of the building are supervised by housemothers whose sole responsibility on campus is to oversee the life in the dorms. Housemothers are mature women who have raised families themselves. Their most important quality is that they like young people. Housemothers do daily room inspections to guarantee that girls keep orderly rooms with beds made and possessions organized.
By car:
From points SOUTH, Interstate 99 comes all the way to Tyrone so there is uninterrupted interstate highway access from the major cities to the south of the school (Baltimore, MD, Washington, DC, and Columbus, OH) The Tyrone exit is Exit 48. Once off of I-99, follow Rt. 453 SOUTH for approximately 2 1/4 miles. The Grier School entrance is on the left. Since Grier is a boarding school for girls that values privacy, there is only one sign indicating the school's entrance. For this reason, it is advised that visitors begin to slow down and prepare for the turn into the entrance just after they pass the small road sign for "Birmingham." The small village of Birmingham is adjacent to the school.
