Image of Mercersburg Academy Mercersburg Academy:
Located in Mercersburg, Franklin County, Pennsylvania, 73 miles southwest of Harrisburg and 90 minutes from Washington D.C. and Baltimore, Maryland, Mercersburg Academy is an independent co-educational college-preparatory boarding school for grades 9-12. Mercersburg Academy has been educating young people since 1893 and although much has changed over 116 years, the mission of the school has not. We remain committed to providing our students with the best education in the classroom and beyond. We are accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools.

Our talented faculty inspire our students to try new things and to learn about the importance of living in a diverse community. Mercersburg is a true boarding school—about 85 percent of our students live on campus. The residential experience at Mercersburg educates the whole student, both in and out of the classroom. We believe so much in the strength of our residential program that we require all students to board in their senior years. The residence experience builds a strong community through evening and weekend activities, such as club meetings, study groups, off-campus trips, and much more.

Location and Facilities:

Boarding:
Living on campus helps you get to know your teachers better because most faculty members also live there. Many of them even live in the dorms. In fact, up to 17 faculty members are active in each dorm as advisers, residents, coaches, or friends—and there’s at least one faculty apartment on each floor of every dormitory.

Dorms:
Much of your resident experience at the Academy will occur in one of seven modern dormitories. Boys are housed Main Hall, Keil Hall, or Fowle Hall. Girls reside in Culbertson House, South Cottage, Swank Hall, or Tippetts Hall.

New students are assigned roommates and housing for their first year. Returning students and their chosen roommates enter a housing lottery each spring to determine their dorms for the next year. A few single rooms in each dorm are available to prefects, who take on the added responsibilities of leading weekly dormitory group meetings and assisting in dorm management.
