Advantage English School EJ, Whistler BC:
Advantage English School EJ is an English language school in Whistler, in the province of British Columbia, Canada. Whistler is a resort town, famous primarily for skiing and snowboarding, and was the venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics. It is located approximately 125 kilometres (78 miles) north of Vancouver BC and is a four hour flight from Toronto. Our warm and friendly school offers English courses to students from around the world who can enjoy outdoor sports as they study English.

We offer the folllowing English courses in Whistler, BC:

Beginner English Course:
This course is the perfect introduction for students who want to learn the basics of the English language. These students can say a few words in the target language, but are unable to make good, complete sentences. The emphasis is on getting students comfortable communicating and interacting in English. Basic language skills are taught such as present tense sentences, vocabulary, as well as simple greetings and expressions.

High-Beginner English Course:
This course is for high beginners who already have a basic understanding of the English language. These students can make simple sentences slowly and understand present tense verbs. Focus is on past and future verb tenses and expanding vocabulary while improving general conversation abilities.

Intermediate English Course:
The intermediate course is for students who want to continue to develop their skills with emphasis on fluency and accuracy. These students can speak with more fluency than the beginning students and can make good sentences in basic past, present and future tenses. Focus is on perfect tenses, more specific vocabulary and improving fluency during conversation.

High-Intermediate English Course:
This level is for students who can use a variety of grammatical structures with some typical errors still prevailing. They can use wide range of vocabulary and have good overall comprehension. The High-Intermediate course is intended for learners who want to progress to a level where they can communicate their ideas clearly and with more confidence. These students will continue to develop their oral and written fluency in English.

Advanced English Course:
This course is for advanced learners who can talk about a wide range of topics with a high level of accuracy. These students have excellent comprehension overall but still need to fine-tune their skills in a few areas. These students already speak the language very well but need some help with more complex grammar and tenses. Focus is on complex grammar and very specific vocabulary with enrichment from books and written assignments.

Business English Course:
Advantage E/J’s Business course is designed to develop the functional language ability of business professionals. It uses a learner-centered practical approach to improve students’ communication skills in a variety of business situations. Students practice how to speak with accuracy at both at work and in other social situations. The course focuses on improving listening and speaking skills in a business environment and includes presentation skills, business negotiations, as well as e-mail and telephone correspondence. The textbook for this course focuses mainly on business situations, but supplementary materials will be used to cover other social settings as well. This course is recommended for Intermediate to Advanced level students.

TOEIC Test Preparation Classes:
The TOEIC test (Test of English for International Communication) was developed as a means to evaluate the English language from an objective standpoint. It is used to measure a non-native English speakers’ aptitude in the English language and sets an international standard of measurement for the language which is required to get into universities and to obtain employment. The course includes use of TOEIC materials and books recommended by our teachers. We also hold practice tests to assess the student’s progression throughout the course. 

Ski /Snowboard Instructor Course:
At Advantage E/J, we teach both communication skills including technical language used in teaching as well as riding techniques which are necessary in order to pass and become a certified ski/snowboard instructor. The course is an introduction to ski/snowboard teaching. There are two main sections in the course which you must pass both in order to become certified which are the skills and teaching components.

Tribal Mogul & Freeride Ski Program:
A special course designed for those who want to simply improve or go on to become professional Mogul or Freeride skiers. Tribal Ski Team is a program which started in 1999, with notorious coaches who will teach you in every aspect of competitions, Freeriding, Moguls and take you to some of the best areas on the mountain, including Powder. Programs are designed to suit the level of the skier, meanwhile Avalanche courses and big mountain courses are also included optionally. The length and level of the course will be determined by the student and may be adjusted to fit the needs of each individual. Through the Blackcomb Freestyle Ski Team, participants are able to compete in regional freestyle ski competitions (in BC only) if they desire.

English for Resort Hospitality Co-op Program:
The “English for Resort Hospitality (ERH)” course at Advantage E/J is an extensive 12 month Co-op ‘Work & Learn’ Program that enables students to develop and fine-tune their English skills while being provided with a work experience that is specialized in a resort hospitality setting. Students will be working here, in Whistler B.C. Canada which boasts many number 1 rankings in various Ski & Snowboard magazines stating the resort to be ‘The Best Resort in the World’. The ERH program is a composition of many specialized courses designed to aid students in their various work situations at Whistler resort, helping students find career opportunities and invaluable experience beyond their Whistler work placement is our ultimate goal.
