Abbotsford Preparatory School, Manchester:
Abbotsford Preparatory school is a co-educational independent day school for children aged 2 ½ up to 11 years. We are located in Urmston, Metropolitan Borough of Trafford, Greater Manchester area, north west England and have nursery, infant and junior departments. At Abbotsford each pupil is encouraged and supported in a caring, disciplined and happy community. We set high academic standards and offer a broad curriculum throughout the school. Nursery, Reception and Preschool:
Pre-School and Reception classes form the Foundation Stage part of the National Curriculum and deliver the basis for all future educational experience. Teacher directed activities and structured play forms a large part of the child’s school day. Research has shown that this is the best way for children of this age to learn.

Junior School:
Our curriculum is varied and is planned to promote the development of the individual’s academic, social, emotional and physical development throughout. As an independent school, the curriculum is guided by the National Curriculum, but not constrained by it.

Our learning and teaching derives from the best of both traditional and modern approaches and teachers develop their own schemes of work, tailoring lessons and learning to suit individual needs. It is to this end that Abbotsford Preparatory strives to raise academic standards but not lose sight of the creative and cultural dimension of education. Every child at Abbotsford Preparatory School is given the opportunity to enjoy creative experiences, from working with clay or wood to making music or performing in one of the school productions. Specialist teachers offer a range of individual music tuition.

Sport and Activities:
All pupils participate in a range of sporting activities including soccer, netball, cross country, cricket, athletics and rounders. Swimming is included from the age of 6/7 onwards and after-school coaching is available in a wide variety of games. Inter-school competition is encouraged in a number of these sports and activities.

Other extra curricular activities currently include walking, chess, cross-country, soccer, netball, drama, French club, cookery, mathematics workshop, gardening, stamp collecting, table-tennis, and computer club.
