Instituto Cervantes, London:
The Instituto Cervantes in London is located in the centre of town in Belgravia, London Borough of Westminster near to Victoria and Sloane Square tube stations. Its history as a Spanish cultural centre goes back over sixty years. The Instituto Cervantes in London is the only official Spanish Government Language Centre, a public institution founded in 1991 to promote Spanish language teaching and knowledge of the cultures of Spanish-speaking countries throughout the world. We offer general Spanish courses, special courses such as conversation, business, teacher training and courses to prepare students for the DELE Diplomas. On-line Spanish courses are also available. There is a full programme of cultural events including lectures, film screenings, book launches, theatre and exhibitions. Studying Spanish at the Instituto Cervantes in London means not only learning the language but also having the opportunity to discover the cultures of the Hispanic world by attending our cultural events.
General Spanish:
Our general courses are divided into four levels: Initial, Intermediate, Advanced and Higher. The duration of the courses varies from one week to several months and they are available at a range of times.
For students with a particular interest or requirement, we offer special courses: Spanish for business, translation, conversation classes as well as customised Spanish courses for companies.
Initial/Beginner Level A1:
For this level, no previous knowledge of Spanish is required (except for the conversation course). Spanish will be spoken from the first day of class and over the course of the two modules, students will learn how to express needs, to understand and use popular every day expressions as well as simple sentences.
Initial/Beginner Level A2:
Students learn how to describe in simple terms, aspects of the past and their surroundings, as well as matters related to immediate needs. They are able to hold short conversations and using simple sentences talk about daily life, write postcards, simple letters and short stories.
Intermediate Level B1:
Students learn how to talk about familiar matters and how to use communication strategies in order to hold conversations related to the past and the future. They are also able to read simple general and literary texts as well as write letters and compositions about general aspects of daily life.
Intermediate Level B2:
Students will be able to give detailed information about general subjects, express themselves fluently and write long texts. They are able to use communication strategies in order to hold conversations in different contexts and situations.
Advanced Level C1:
Students will be able to discuss points of view, reason and learn how to use idiomatic expressions and other stylistic resources which enable them to use the language creatively. They will be able to read contemporary Spanish and Latin American texts without any difficulty.
Advanced Level C2:
Students will learn how to express themselves fluently and spontaneously without apparent effort in finding the appropriate words. They will be to use the language effectively in social, academic and professional situations.
Higher Level D1:
Students will be able to produce clear and detailed texts on relatively complex topics, as well as inferring implicit meaning in them. In the same way, they will be able to take part in any conversation or discussion and to recognise idioms, sayings and colloquial expressions.
Higher Level D2:
Students will be able to express themselves fluently and convey subtle nuances with precision. If there is a problem they will be able to overcome it without anyone noticing. They will be able to write complex letters, reports and articles clearly and fluently,in an appropriate style and with a logical structure and effectiveness which helps the reader focus on the important ideas and remember them.
Intensive Courses:
For those who want to make the most of the Spanish experience. These courses cover the same programme as regular courses, in a more comprehensive and faster way.
Crash Courses:
These courses are designed for those who wish to gain a quick and intensive introduction to Spanish before going on holiday or a business trip or simply to refresh their previous knowledge.
Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE)
The Diplomas of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) are official qualificatons, which prove your level of proficiency in the Spanish language and which are awarded by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Science. There are four levels: A1 NEW! Starter Level, B1 Initial Level, B2 Intermediate Level and C2 Proficiency Level.
Spanish Courses for Companies and Institutions:
We can develop customised Spanish classes for your company, at any level, whatever the size or sector of your organisation. Spanish classes are available at your premises or ours, from Monday to Saturday. Whether in-company training or at the Instituto Cervantes, classes may range from once or twice a week to intensive daily programmes with one of our qualified Spanish teachers.
