Via Lingua Crete:
Located on Greece's largest island, Via Lingua Crete offers an International TEFL Certificate which is the basic qualification you need in order to teach English abroad. Our school is in Chania's old town section and we offer you the opportunity to obtain your TEFL certificate while studying on one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean. Our TEFL certificate course is practical in nature, regularly assessed, and fully complies with all international standards for the regulation of the global TEFL industry. It involves 120 hours of tuition and includes 10 hours of real "classroom" teaching. Trainees teach adult students of English using the skills learnt on the course as early as Day 3. All our graduates are also part of the Via Lingua Job Placement program. TEFL courses run throughout the year, 4 weeks each session.
Our TEFL certificate course is essentially divided into six areas:
- Classroom Management
- Teaching Skills
- Language Awareness
- Phonology
- Unknown Language (candidates are taught an unknown foreign language, usually Greek)
- Teaching Practice
In the morning, there are input sessions on the skills and methods of teaching. The afternoon consists of teaching practice (in small groups), lesson observation and lesson preparation. The day ends with teaching one of the 4 different levels (Beginner, Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced) of English to local adult residents.
Via Lingua:
The TEFL course is run in association with Via Lingua, one of the world’s largest and well-respected TEFL certificate course providers. All Via Lingua courses are moderated by the prestigious ELT Institute, Hunter College, City University of New York. Hunter College, located in the heart of Manhattan, is the largest college in the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Founded in 1870, Hunter is also one of the oldest public colleges in the country.
Crete is the most southern of the Greek islands. Because of its size, Crete is easily reachable by flight or ferry from Athens. Flights from Athens to Chania are reasonably priced, leave several times a day, and take just 40 minutes. Fast and slow ferries are also available, if you prefer to take your time and cruise across the Aegean Sea to Chania's local port. Upon arriving in Chania, you will be met by a member of our staff at the airport or ferry port and transferred to your hotel accommodation. We will have everything arranged to welcome you to Crete with warm, Cretan-style hospitality!
The Sunday evening before the course starts, we have an orientation tour of the town of Chania, location of the school, and a bite to eat in the Old Town. As Sunday is a very popular night to go out in Greece, most groups continue "breaking the ice" at a nearby seaside club or taverna while getting introduced to a local favorite, tsikoudia (raki).
