Raffles University Iskandar, Johor:
Raffles University Iskandar (RUI) is a comprehensive, private university in Malaysia that is part of Raffles Education Corporation (REC), the largest private education group in Asia Pacific. Accredited by the Malaysian government, our campus is currently located in Johor Bahru but we will move to a new state-of-the-art campus in Iskandar Malaysia’s EduCity Zone by 2013. RUI provides high-quality master's programs and bachelor's degrees in the fields of business, education, design & arts, and social science. Undergraduate & Postgraduate Programs:
Foundation in Liberal Arts:
Students are exposed to a range of topics in humanities so they can appreciate the depth and subtlety of human nature and experience. Students completing the programme are well-placed to enter the degree programmes in their respective disciplines. Emphasis will be placed on communication and study skills because they are essential for professional practice after students graduate from their degree programmes, as well as assisting them to successfully complete their degree programmes.
Business Degree Programs:
Master of Business Administration (MBA)
The MBA programme at RUI is designed to deliver a solid, integrated and multidisciplinary curriculum focussing on general and evolving management theory and practice through the use of lectures, readings, case studies, group projects, presentations, business simulations and the elective of dissertation and business study mission, all of which are emphasized to give students the necessary abilities to handle real-life business situations. The foundation of this MBA curricula centers on an applied business education in a multi-cultural learning environment, comprising of two key management skills, (i) ‘functional skills’ of economics, finance, marketing, operations, management, and accounting, and (ii) ‘performance skills’" of leadership, teamwork, ethics, social responsibilities, and communication that are so critical for effective management in a competitive global economy.
Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA - Honours)
This program helps students to develop creative and critical problem-solving skills necessary to be effective business leaders. They will learn to be fully aware of their social and ethical responsibilities as business personnel. An important feature of this business programme is the requirement of a final year project (FYP) and a professional (internship) attachment; these together will bring reflective and analytic learning experience to the students and further strengthen their creativity and managerial skills with a capstone Strategic Management module.
Bachelor of Accountancy (Honours)
The programme is a professional degree to provide accounting education for the public and private sectors. It develops students’ understanding of business operations and, in particular, all functional areas of accounting, taxation, auditing and the business environment.
Design Degree Programs:
Master of Design:
This is a professionally oriented Masters programme targeted for designers who already have an undergraduate degree in design or the equivalent educational and professional experience. The programme enhances designers’ practical skills to the level of master practitioner through Design Studio subjects, while furthering their theoretical understandings through Design Theory subjects, and developing their capacity for critical reflection on the profession of design through Design Studio Practice.
Bachelor of Fashion Design (Honours)
In the studio, a competent fashion designer is expected to be able to create anything from casual wear to haute couture. The fashion designer needs to know how to sketch out ideas, draw them digitally, create patterns, construct outfits, and also understand the properties of fabrics and materials. The Bachelor of Fashion Design introduces budding fashion designers to the fundamentals and more. Students will learn how to utilize textile technology, familiarise themselves with a fashion designer’s studio and develop their fashion senses with design theories.Bachelor of Product Design (Honours)
Professional product designers are capable of manipulating plastics, metals, glass, wood and other materials to turn them into user-friendly objects. To achieve this, they are skilled in creating product blueprints, 3D rendering, and construction. This programme will familiarise students with the basics of drawing until they are strong enough to work on realistic 3D renders. Students will learn how to use workshop tools to build their technical skills. From studio-based modules, product design students will practice fleshing out their imaginations with materials of their choice.
Bachelor of Interior Design (Honours)
Interior designers are able to use their skills to design space and effects range from making a client’s home comfortable to transporting people into another space and era with periodic décor. Professional interior designers are able to draw floor plans, render their ideas in 3D, and make on-the-spot sketches to present their ideas. Students pursuing their Bachelor of Interior Design will be familiarised with the working life of field professionals through simulated projects and assignments. Lessons will build basics in drawing and design theories. So students will be able to create digital artwork of blueprints, floor plans, and other necessary computer generated imagery.
Bachelor of Graphic Design (Honours)
The start of this course will introduce how graphic design communicates with people. Students will begin their foundation classes in drawing and design theory. Also, they will learn how to execute designs on print, digital, or interactive platforms with the right computer software. Further into the course, assignments and projects allow students to explore learning design on their own. Thus, students will be able to develop various styles to be creative and versatile designers. Students will graduate with a strong portfolio of different art forms. They will also be equipped with the ability to implant messages and ideas into minds with the use of expressive visuals and text.
Bachelor of Multimedia Design (Honours)
Multimedia designers are experts when it comes to selecting the best platform for capturing the most attention. They know their media well and can achieve results with audio and visual artwork. Capable multimedia designers are usually skilled in the following areas: image manipulation, graphic design, web design, animation, and a variety of other design software. Students in this course will learn how to translate their ideas into web pages, print ads, or flash programs. Skills in design will be developed with modules like Drawing, Design Principles and Colour Theory; Computing for Design; and Motion Graphics.
Bachelor of Jewellery Design (Honours)
The craft of jewellery design has thousands of years of rich history. This course will develop knowledge on contemporary and traditional styles of making jewellery. Students will work with various materials like metals, glass, enamels, and wood. With design theory subjects, students will understand how symbolism and material properties make people around the world pay premium prices for jewellery pieces. By the end of this course, students will be skilled in drawing jewellery pieces on 2D and 3D interfaces. Also, they will have the ability to craft their own creations with studio-level machinery.
Education Degree Programs:
Master of Education
The programme is designed to build on the knowledge, understanding and skill sets achieved in the Bachelor’s degree programme in Education. The degree offers two areas of specialization: Education Leadership and Higher Education. These are intended to provide students with the knowledge and skills to effectively manage elementary and secondary schools and other educational institutions of higher learning.
Bachelor of Education (Honours)
The degree develops students’ knowledge of education and educational issues in general, while allowing for a choice of specialisation in two fields of growing importance and significance: Early Childhood Education and Exceptional Children. This degree recognizes a contemporary and dynamic educational environment which requires knowledge, creative integrity and flexibility. Coursework will reflect relevance towards the workplace and produce educated students with specialized knowledge.
Bachelor of Applied Psychology (Honours)
The overall aim of this programme is to develop the knowledge and general skills of students and to enable them to meet the growing needs for psychological services in the Malaysian community and industry. Modules in the programme are designed to provide different career pathways for students as follows: Human Resource Pathway, Health Services Pathway, Marketing & Branding Pathway, and Education Pathway.
