German-American School:
German-American School is a private, not-for-profit German language school that offers an after-school German language program for children from the ages of 4 - 15 throughout the Greater New York City area. We also offer German classes for adults. We offer our classes in convenient locations in Manhattan, NYC; Ridgewood, Queens; Garden City and Franklin Square in Long Island. Currently, 320 students ages 4-15 attend our after-school German programs. We have a staff of 21 experienced teachers, many of whom have been with us for many years.

After-school German Language Programs for Children Ages 4-15:

Playgroup (Ages 4-5)
- Basic alphabet. Alphabet song. Drawing, crafts. Emphasis is on sound production. Varying activities. Singing.

Kindergarten (Ages 5-6)
- Continuation of above. Plus: learning more basic words/phrases.

Vorschule I, Vorschule II: (Ages 6-8)
- No background in German is necessary. Much play learning, coloring, drawing, singing. Children should know how to print. Homework is assigned.

1st Grade:
- Children learn to read, speak, and write in German. Basic conjugation - play learning. Stresses repetitive learning.

2nd Grade:
- Continuation of lst grade. Stresses everyday conversations and vocabulary acquisition. Basic grammar (such as conjugation, irregular verbs, etc).

3rd Grade:
- Continuation of 2nd grade. Stresses all four skills. More memorization, dictations, and, of course, songs. Lots of group work with dialogues. Skits.

4th Grade:
- Stresses all four skills. Plus: begin paragraph writing. Retelling of stories. German culture will be discussed in English. At this point the children are usually l0 or ll years old and we begin with the formal introduction of grammar such as a frequently used past tense (for example).

5th Grade:
- Continuation of 4th grade. More grammar. Also: paragraph writing is expanded to short compositions. Retelling of short stories. Memorization of skits and dialogues.

6th Grade:
- Continuation of 5th: Plus: Longer compositions, geography, texts on German culture in German, and short stories and texts to be read and then retold.

7th Grade:
- More reading, more conversations in groups, more reports, and, in general more advanced work than in the 6th grade.

8th Grade:
- Review of grammar. Readings from German literature and general culture. Preparation for the NY State 3-Year Comprehensive Regents Exam.

Exam Preparation:
The German-language program prepares the students for the Three-Year Comprehensive Regents exam (NY). But for those students who want to continue with the language program until they enter College we can offer German language and conversation classes to prepare them for the following exams:

- AP German
- NY State Regents exam
- AATG Level 2 or 3 exams

German Classes for Adults:
The main focus of German-American School is to offer German language lessons for children. But we also have German lessons for adults in two districts: Ridgewood, Queens, and in New York City (upper East Side, in the 70s).

Adult German language classes meet for 30 hours (l5 sessions, 2 hours each). Our classes do not have more than 10 adults and are taught by experienced native or native fluency speakers.

Currently 320 students ages 4-15 attend our after-school German programs. We have a staff of 21 experienced teachers, many of whom have been with us for many years.

No previous German language knowledge is required to enter our language program. Our after-school classes meet once a week for 1.75 hours. The German-American school has been Regents-accredited since 1911.

Deutsches Haus at NYU
Courses / Programs
Deutsches Haus is a non-profit organization and operates under the umbrella of the Faculty of Arts and Science of New York University; since 1977 its university affiliation has provided a solid academic basis. We offer German Language Courses for adults and children and are operating as the official Language program of the Goethe-Institut New York, as well as its official examination center.

Our children's classes cater to both bilingual German children as well as beginners, Pre-K through age 10. Adults may register for courses in all language levels from beginner through very proficient. Deutsches Haus also offers a wide range of cultural events and a bookclub.

The Deutsches Haus is located in a 19th-century mews building in the heart of Manhattan's Greenwich Village, NY City. When you come to the Deutsches Haus, you will notice all our teachers & staff work here, because we love the Deutsches Haus. There is a warm positive energy, that fills the air with constant encouragement.
Language program offerings include standard group classes at all learning levels, private instruction, a corporate on-site program and cross-cultural special courses, as well as language exams. We offer 7 classes for children.
Hills Learning
Courses / Programs
Hills Learning is a language school located in Manhattan, New York City offering Japanese language courses for kids, teenagers and adults of all abilities. Our Japanese programs for kids combine fun and interactive language activities with quality language instruction.

We offer both group classes, private lessons, and intensive Japanese courses. Group classes are held at Hills Learning center in Manhattan, but private classes can be held at the student’s home. KinderHaus German Immersion Kindergarten
Courses / Programs
KinderHaus is a full-time German immersion KinderGarten, pre-school and after-school program based in Park Slope, in western Brooklyn, New York City's most populous borough. KinderHaus serves NYC's local and international community.

We provide a private day school program serving preschool kindergarten through pre-kindergarten and community wide programming, including German language immersion, afterschool classes, summer camps, mini holiday camps and enrichment classes for preschoolers to elementary students and other multicultural events.
