The Institute supports and challenges students to increase their health care knowledge and skills, and become health care professionals.
Allied Health Care Certificate Programs:
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA):
As a Nursing Assistant, you may give direct patient care in long-term care facilities, hospitals, clinics and in the home. With your newly acquired NA skills, you can diversify into other areas of medicine, such as pediatrics, labor and delivery, and geriatrics.
Upon graduation from IIHCP, you can build a rewarding and secure future for yourself as a Nursing Assistant. To become a Certified Nursing Assistant you must take the State Board Licensure exam. In-services are to be renewed every year. At the IIHCP the student will receive a certification for Nursing Assistant upon completion of the course.
Home Health Aid:
Home health aides help elderly, convalescent, or disabled persons live in their own homes instead of in a health facility. Under the direction of nursing or medical staff, they provide health-related services, such as administering oral medications.
Like nursing aides, home health aides may check temperature, pulse, and respiration; keep patients’ rooms neat; help with simple prescribed exercises; and help patients move from bed, dress, bathe, and groom. Experienced home health aides also may assist with medical equipment such as ventilators, which help patients breathe.
Certified Medical Assistant:
The duties of medical assistants vary from office to office, depending on the location and size of the practice and the practitioner’s specialty. In small practices, medical assistants usually are generalists, handling both administrative and clinical duties and reporting directly to an office manager, physician, or other health practitioner. Medical assistants perform administrative and clinical tasks to keep the offices of physicians, podiatrists, chiropractors, and other health practitioners running smoothly.
Certified Surgical Technician:
Surgical technologists, also called scrubs and surgical or operating room technicians, assist in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses, or other surgical personnel. Surgical technologists are members of operating room teams, which most commonly include surgeons, anesthesiologists, and circulating nurses.
Certified Midwifery Program:
A midwife is an expert in normal and natural birth and is recognized throughout the world as the most appropriate maternity care provider for most women. Learn the responsibilities of a midwife from the beginning of a patient's childbearing cycle to well after the delivery of the patient's baby. Most direct-entry midwives are self-employed in independent, private midwifery practices. Others work in public or community health agencies in administrative, educational, or counseling positions.
Certified Patient Care Technician:
This program is taught with a combination of lecture, practical exercises in the medical laboratory and with real-world experience during the externship portion of training conducted off-campus at medical facilities.
The PCT Program at IIHCP prepares a graduate to work as an entry-level Patient Care Technician in a clinic, hospital, or long-term care facility. Graduates will be able to check vital signs, perform CPR and First Aid, and assist in medical examinations, performing electrocardiograms (EKGs), basic laboratory procedures, and phlebotomy.
Therapeutic Massage Program:
Medical massage can be used to prevent muscular atrophy in cases of broken bones, to reduce inflammation in strains and sprains, to reduce inflammation of sciatica and lumbago, to increase circulation of varicose ulcers, to stimulate normal bowel movements and much more.
Certified Phlebotomist Program:
Phlebotomists are allied health professionals who have been trained to collect a patient's/client's blood, or other body specimens (such as urine, and stool for occult blood tests). They often are seen as part of the clinical laboratory team, because they collect the ordered clinical laboratory specimens prior to the actual laboratory testing.
