Sign Language Interpreting Major at Goshen College:
Located 25 miles southeast of South Bend, in Goshen, North Indiana, Goshen College is a private, co-educational, residential, college of the liberal arts and sciences rooted in the Anabaptist-Mennonite tradition. The American Sign Language Department at Goshen College offers major and minor degree programs in Sign Language Interpreting. The sign language interpreting major at Goshen College will introduce you to the rich language and culture of the Deaf community. We then use those language skills to teach you how to interpret between spoken English and ASL or signed English. Our sign language interpreting program’s small class sizes will allow you to work closely with your professors and peers in a rigorous but supportive setting.

The Major courses have two concentrations:
- Concentration in ASL-English Interpreting:
Goshen College offered its first classes in its new bachelor's degree program in ASL interpreting the fall of 2002. The four-year degree program is designed to prepare graduates for a professional interpreting career and to use their skills in service to the community and the church. Upon completion of the B. A. degree, students will have taken the written portion of the National Registry of Interpreters for Deaf evaluation and have a sound base on which to build their interpreting skills.

- Concentration in ASL Teacher Education:
The teacher education concentration was first offered as a part of the ASL program in the fall of 2007. Students in this four-year degree program will spend two semesters in language immersion at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. and/or studying abroad on SST. Upon completion, students will have the necessary skills to pursue a teaching career where they can teach at a school for the Deaf or to work with children who use American Sign Language.

- Two semesters immersion in ASL (ASL SST and/or Gallaudet University)
Minor in American Sign Language:
The minor program in ASL is for students who wish to expand their language skills and cultural knowledge or to enhance other majors such as ministry, education, social work, psychology, etc.
Compulsory Modules include:

- ASL 220, Deaf History
Other Language Courses:
The Modern an Classical Languages and Literatures (MCLL) Department also offers majors and minors in Spanish as well as lessons in French, Arabic, Khmer, Mandarin and Swahili.
