Founded in 1936, Memphis College of Art (MCA) is a professional center of art and design education in Shelby County, Tennessee, dedicated to preparing individuals for lives of creating, problem solving and critical thinking. We offer Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree programs in photography, digital media, design arts, fine arts with concentrations in painting, photography, sculpture and drawing among others. Memphis College of Art also offers Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and Masters of Art in Teaching and Education.

Our Students:
A diverse population of students represents 25 states including Alaska and New York, and five foreign countries including Nigeria and Ukraine. 60% are from the mid-south. Students serious about a career in art choose an independent college of art to study with other serious art students in dedicated facilities and with all the resources available to provide a challenging art education and a directed career path.
MCA also has several extra-curricular opportunities for students to expand their learning environment beyond the formal classroom:
- MCA belongs to a consortium of local colleges that allows full-time students to take classes at other local colleges, at no additional cost, where you can study practically any subject that interests you or may help you in your career, from marketing to metaphysics.
- Through programs in conjunction with the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design, you can spend a semester studying at any of the 30 participating art colleges, from the Gulf to the Great Lakes, and earn credit toward your degree at no additional cost.
- MCA also participates in the New York Studio Program, which provides an opportunity for you to study for a semester in New York with your own studio, regular critiques and the art world all around you.
- Museum seminar trips to foreign and domestic cities such as Paris, Rome, London, Berlin, Moscow, Mexico City, New York and Chicago afford students the chance to whet their experiential palettes.
Memphis College of Art has student housing available for a large percentage of our student body. Student resident buildings are conveniently located within walking distance, directly across from Overton Park. Freshmen students that live outside a 30-mile radius of MCA are required to live on-campus for their first year unless they plan to live with family members in the area. Live-in Resident Assistants supervise students in all housing buildings.
Each room is provided with high-speed Internet access, cable, and local phone service. Utilities are included in the prices of all apartments. All buildings have off-street parking available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Morning shuttle service to the college’s main building is offered weekdays when classes are in session.
