Dark Horse Institute in Franklin (15 miles south of downtown Nashville), Tennessee, is an audio engineering and music production school providing students with real-world training. We can teach you everything you need to know to get started in the recording industry in 12 weeks. As our school is hands-on, you will be learning from (and working alongside) professional producers and engineers who do this for a living - every day of the week. Our goal is to give our students every opportunity to excel in the entertainment industry.

Once you've finished our Accelerated Crash Course we will provide industry networking opportunities with recording studios, production companies, performing arts halls, and gear manufacturers. You will able to take advantage of our 17 years in the business. You'll know what we know and who we know, too.

About our Accelerated Crash Course in Music Production:
In this Accelerated Crash Course we cut out the fat! We aren't going to spend a lot of time talking about the history of microphones or music theory. What we will concentrate on are the essential elements and core concepts of what you really need to know to start a career in music production. You will be trained on the latest equipment-not on "student" equipment but on the same professional gear that is currently being used every day to create world class, chart topping records. We will walk you through every step of how to set up a complex recording session. You will record session players in a variety of settings, using world-class consoles, mics, and outboard gear. Quite simply, you will learn what it really takes to get great sounds from pros who do this every day-for a living.

You will learn:
- The different types of microphones, from Condenser, Dynamics, Tube, and Ribbon - and which ones to use for a given sound.
- How to set up complex tracking sessions.
- How too handle complex signal routing and patching
- How to use the industry standard software - Pro Tools 8.
- How to use software plugs including Auto-Tune, Melodyne, Sound Replacer, and Beat Detective.

Student Accommodation:
During your stay in Music City, you will have the option of staying at a nearby extended stay hotel at approximately 50% off of their normal rates. You may choose to room with one of our other students, allowing you to cut your cost in half once again.
