- Performance Diploma: is a four-year curriculum designed for the student who has not yet completed a baccalaureate degree.
- Artist’s Diploma: is a minimum of two years and a maximum of four years in length, with a requirement of four recitals.
- Professional Studies Certificate: is designed for students seeking intensive training in their applied area, often with specific goals in mind (such as preparation for competitions or auditions).
These programs offer full support (tuition, room and board) to highly talented students pursuing the highest levels of classical music performance training.
Colburn School of Performing Arts Programs:
Colburn School of Performing Arts offers programs in Music, Dance, Drama for children and adults, plus private lessons.
Within the Conservatory of Music, The Colburn School offers four different curricula, created to accommodate students in the advanced stages of their musical training. As an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music, we offer a curriculum that includes a rigorous academic program.
The school selects unique and gifted musicians and supplies room and board and tuition. Students must audition for admission. Audition requirements and standards remain the same for all programs. The application process for non-U.S. citizens is the same as that for U.S. citizens. The Colburn School does not discriminate on the basis of national origin.
The Colburn School has approximately 50 practice rooms distributed between both the Olive and Grand Buildings for use by all students (as specified in the School’s Practice Room Policy). A variety of room sizes allows for practice by individual students as well as rehearsals of chamber ensembles such as quartets and quintets. High quality grand pianos are available in many rooms, as well as excellent quality upright pianos in other rooms.
Orchestra Library:
The newly constructed orchestra library houses the performance and study scores for the School's large ensembles. The Orchestra Librarian/Manager can be found here preparing for upcoming rehearsals and concerts. Students and faculty will find the orchestra library a valuable resource for orchestral repertoire and performance practice. Materials are non-circulating and are intended solely for Colburn ensembles and classes.
Media Technology Spaces:
The Colburn School has in place state-of-the-art technology to record the many performances, master classes and lectures at the School. In Zipper Hall, a control room overlooks the space, and a post-production studio is located adjacent to the stage entrance to record and reinforce performances and lectures. A control room in the Olive Building next to Thayer Hall serves that venue. A new mastering room next to the Olive Rehearsal Hall will be built to provide tracking and mastering for all of the halls at The Colburn School.
