Academia Kolumbus is an international Spanish school in Quito, Ecuador, and offer individual one-on-one classes, mini-group and combined classes for all levels, all year round. We also offer internship and volunteering mediation for all areas, and Business Spanish, Medical Spanish.

Ecuador is situated on the Equator, in the northwest of South America, and is considered to be the most geographically diverse country in the world. In addition to the tropical rain forest, the snow-capped Andes span the length of the country to the Mediterranean-like coast. About an hour's flight to the west of the mainland lies the most beautiful island group in the world: the Galapagos Islands, an unspoilt natural paradise. Here, visitors can swim with dolphins and sea lions or admire ancient giant sea turtles on the beach.

It is difficult to say which aspect of Ecuador is the most beautiful. Is it the old colonial cities, embedded in the scenic valleys of the Andes? Or the tropical beaches of the Pacific Coast? Is it the Andean highlands with their spectacular volcanoes and colourful Indian markets? Or is it the unique natural paradise on the Galapagos Islands? Or maybe it is the breathtaking cloud forests in the Amazon Jungle. The natural and cultural diversity is unique; in Ecuador you will find all of South America in one country.

Ecuadorians speak a very clear Spanish, which enables rapid learning results, especially for beginning language students. The capital of Quito is situated 2,850 meters (9,350 feet) above sea level, in a picturesque valley surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Andes. On clear days, this extraordinary geographic location provides a spectacular view of the Andes and the volcanic streets. Due to its pleasant climate, Quito is described as "The City of Eternal Spring."

Quito is one of the most beautiful, richest, and oldest cities in South America. Fought over by the Incas and conquered by the Spanish in 1534, the city has an eventful history. With its stately colonial palaces, the downtown historical district has been declared a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site.

Group classes (max. 5 students) with 20 or 30 lessons of 60 mins, Individual classes with 20 or 30 lessons of 60 mins, Combined classes with 20 lessons group classes plus 10 lessons individual classes of 60 minutes. Preparation courses for the DELE-Test. Business Spanish, Medical Spanish.

Language courses begin weekly on every Monday of the year for all standards: from those aimed at the beginner to those aimed at the professional translator.

Activities include: Dance Classes - Discover together with our dance teacher the Latin American rhythms such as Salsa and Merengue. Immerse into the mentality and energy of South America and swing your hips!

Joint cooking of Ecuadorian dishes - join in and cook together with teachers and other students and then enjoy the culinary specialities of Ecuador!

Our students are accommodated in well-selected host families (homestay program), which are all located within a 10-minute walk from the school! Students can opt to share with friend or girl- (boy-) friend. Host families can also cater for vegetarians and other students who are on special diets (e.g. due to allergies). If students note this on their enrolment form, host families can optimally prepare for this. On demand we can of course organise accommodation in a hotel or in a youth hostel close to our school.

Our students and interns reside with selected host families who live centrally in the modern part of Quito. The families provide furnished single rooms with 2 meals per day as well as laundry service. Moreover, living with a host family accords you an excellent opportunity to utilize and improve your acquired Spanish skills and learn more about the local culture. Students often form close friendships with their host families that endure long after the student's stay has come to an end.

You will be picked up from the airport in Quito and brought to your selected accommodations. Students are free to bring along their friend to live with the host family. Please note any special dietary needs (if you are a vegetarian, for example) and allergies when you register, so that your host family can accommodate these.



If you already have accommodation in Quito, you can also book internship mediation without accommodation. Our clients who book an internship with accommodation can participate in the recreational program of the language school free of charge.
