Explanation of Levels
Level 3: Pre-Intermediate.
Students at this level have a basic command of the language needed in a range of familiar situations, e.g. can understand and pass on simple messages. The classes at this level can help students to learn the basics in English. There is a focus on learning the most important grammar and vocabulary.
Level 4: Low-intermediate – intermediate.
Limited but effective command of the language in familiar situations, e.g. can take part in a routine meeting on familiar topics, particularly in an exchange of simple factual information. Students at this level may have studied English in secondary or high school, but not have had much opportunity to practise English in an English-speaking country. The classes at this level can help to consolidate and develop their ability in using English.
Level 5: Upper-intermediate. Students at this level generally have an effective command of the language in a range of situations e.g. can make a contribution to discussions on practical matters. They may have been living in Ireland for a period of time, or had the opportunity to practise English in a real context.
The classes at this level can prepare students for the First Certificate Examination.
Level 6: Advanced. Students at this level usually have a good operational command of the language in a wide range of real world situations, e.g. can participate effectively in discussions and meetings. Students at this level may have been living in Ireland, either studying or working for a period of time.
The classes at this level usually prepare students for the Cambridge Advanced Examination.
Level 7: Proficiency.Students at this level invariably have a fully operational command of the language at a high level in most situations, e.g. can argue a case confidently, justifying and making points persuasively. Students at this level may have been living in Ireland for a long period of time, or had the opportunity to practise English in an academic or professional context, and as a result be very competent in their use of English.
