In the 19th century, when the city turned from a sleepy spot into an industrial metropolis within a few years, people from all over Germany and Europe came here to seek their fortune. The process was repeated after WW II when the flourishing industry attracted workers from all over the world. In Dortmund you don’t have to go far if you want to eat out at Chinese or Turkish restaurants, listen to Korean or Italian music, or purchase Greek and Arabic delicatassen.
