English Language Institute, Illinois State University, Normal:
Based in Normal, McLean County IL, Illinois State University's English Language Institute (ELI) provides a semester-long Intensive English Program to students from around the world. The course features 20 hours of class instruction per week, and focuses on practical learning and the special needs of adult language learners.
Intensive English Program:
Duration: 1 Semester
Every ELI student is automatically enrolled in the Intensive English Program. All classes are taught in small groups of two to fifteen students. Typical class size is seven to ten students. Features include:
- Focus on practical learning
- 20 hours of class instruction per week
- Classes in Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening
Additional program components include:
Practical Grammar and Lexical Skills Classes:
students reflect on and analyze the language in these specialized classes.
Academic Lecture Classes:
Students can sit in on lectures from a variety of subject areas throughout the University syllabus.
Conversation Partners:
This program gives each ELI student the opportunity to converse weekly with an American student.
Friendship Family Program:
ELI students visit local Illinois families and take part in special cultural activities (optional program).
