Our Purpose:

Photo of Independent Boarding School in East Sussex- Our purpose is simply to enable children to be the best they can be by teaching them how to learn and be able to apply what they learn in life. This raises their confidence and ability no-matter how fast or ‘slow’ they may have originally been, and allows them to succeed in whatever they go on to do.

- The school employs a method of teaching that shows children how to learn and how to retain and be able to use what they learn. This has unique and highly effective results which become obvious to anyone who has visited the school and observed the children using it - or have heard the graduation speeches of students when leaving the 6th form.

- Visitors routinely comment on the confidence and friendliness of the children and the fact that they actually seem to be enjoying their education.

What is 'Study Technology' at Greenfields?

Photos of Greenfields Independent Day & Boarding SchoolThe school attributes its success to it utilisation of the discoveries about studying and learning made by Educator and humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard. He began his research into the field of study and education in the 1920's in Guam, noticing what worked and what didn't.

While assisting students in an exacting training programme in the 1960s, he did extensive research and became aware of the absence of any systematic research and methodology on the subject of study itself. He accelerated and concluded his own investigation into how people learn and the difficulties they encounter in the process, eventually identifying the primary reasons people have any difficulty studying or learning.

From these discoveries, he went on to develop:
- methods a student can use to effectively study any subject for real understanding
- methods a teacher can employ to effectively teach any subject for real understanding
- ways to avoid the primary causes of study difficulties
- exactly how to identify and resolve study trouble when it does occur.

This organised body of study methods became known as Study Technology, the first subject which actually teaches one how to learn. Consider what you, the reader, would be like if you understood all the subjects you had studied and could use all the information - maths, grammar, music, photography, physics, and so on.

Student Testimonials:

Picture of Independent Boarding School in East Sussex"I remember some of my earliest musical memories being at Greenfields. I greatly enjoyed the lessons and learned a lot from them, which in turn helped prompt me to pursue a career as a composer conductor - now having my own chamber orchestra. Using study technology helped me a lot in my early studies and I continue to use it every day. Knowing how to study, makes it possible to learn what I need to and want to know in order to achieve my artistic goals.”
- Ali, Musician and founder of the L.A. based Traction Avenue Chamber Orchestra.

“I have personally found that the Study Technology is truly one of the most helpful things a child, or an adult for that matter, can learn. It offers the tools to sharpen one’s ability to read, write and communicate well. No child is deemed stupid or backward or dyslexic at Greenfields or less than perfectly capable of understanding and applying what they have learnt if put at the right level and given the right tools. This is more than a technique – it is a whole attitude towards learning.”
- Chloe, former Head Girl currently studying at Oxford

“Study Tech enabled me to understand those things which I wanted to understand. I’ve always had a love for engines and cars, and I would create real-life problems and try and solve them with what I learnt. Knowing Study Tech I knew that I could fully be able to understand and apply what I am learning about.
- Niki, Racing Driver – winner of three championships to date, including the European Porsche championship.

“The most valuable skill I took away from Greenfields is the ability to learn any subject I set my sights on. The school gives you the tools you need to learn about life and actually USE the knowledge you attain. The attainment of knowledge takes a back seat to the USE of knowledge, which is invaluable.”
- Felix, International, award-winning, free lance photographer

The College has an atmosphere closer to university than school. We offer students the opportunity to thrive in an atmosphere of managed independence that acts as a stepping stone between school and university.

At RIC, there is no uniform, no bells ring and everybody is on first name terms. Students are encouraged to be themselves and achieve exam results that often exceed their expectations.

“My wife and I left RIC after our visit convinced it was the right move for our daughter. In fact, it’s the kind of school we both would have loved to have gone to ourselves.”
