UCLA Sci|Art NanoLab, Los Angeles:
The Sci | Art NanoLab, at UCLA, Los Angeles, is a highly competitive summer program for high school juniors and seniors interested in collaborating with diverse and notable minds to challenge traditional, polarized perspectives of the arts and sciences. Throughout the 2-week intensive program, students will make connections between cutting edge scientific research, popular culture and contemporary arts. Lab visits, workshops, hands-on experiments, and meetings with world renowned scientists will be balanced with visits to museums, daily movie screenings and meetings with famous contemporary artists who collaborate with scientists.

About the Sci | Art NanoLab:

Photo of Summer Science & Arts Camp in Los Angeles, CASmall groups of students are taught by a scientist / artist team with frequent visits from faculty in wide range of disciplines. Sci | Art NanoLab students will benefit from exposure and collaboration with art and science faculty and students participating in this program's team-based interdisciplinary nanoscience research.

Objective:
Students will gain a broad understanding of the impact of science on contemporary art and popular culture and focus on new sciences – bio and nanotechnology. Emphasis will be on development of proposals and ideas that could serve as prototypes for either an art project or a scientific research study.

Location:
The Sci | Art NanoLab is located in the newly built California Nanosystems Institute (CNSI) on the grounds of UCLA, in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, California. The course will take place on the south side of campus and will run parallel to the Design | Media Arts Summer Institute and the NanoCER program for in-resident undergraduate science students. Students will interact with both programs through the Summer Sessions program.
