Brentwood College School, Vancouver Island:
Brentwood is a coeducational college-preparatory boarding school (located in Mill Bay, 30 miles north of Victoria, British Columbia) offering superb modern facilities for academics, athletics, and the arts in a pristine Vancouver Island setting, thus providing a remarkable boarding school environment. With students from over 30 different countries, the Brentwood tripartite programme puts academics at the core of the curriculum, while creating extensive opportunities for all students to participate in athletics and the arts.
Founded in 1923 by distinguished Victoria business and professional men Brentwood continues to educate ethical leaders through its curriculum and school wide participation in fundraising for local, national and international charities. True to the ideals of its 1923 founders, Brentwood College School has become a community of leaders, willing to serve and contribute to the world.
Every student has the chance to shine, each in his or her own way, and Brentwood celebrates the confidence with which graduates pursue their varied paths. Brentwood College School nurtures, challenges and inspires scholars, athletes and artists as global citizens, stewards and leaders of integrity.
The pursuit of academic excellence is a cornerstone of the Brentwood programme. Teacher expectations are high. New students quickly recognize that academic progress depends on individual effort, persistence, focus, and respect for the learning environment, both in class and during "prep", the weekday evening sessions of supervised, silent study. They see that Brentwood teachers and students value academic success.
They learn from Aristotle that "excellence is not an act, but a habit". Through the advisor system, teacher support and critique, and the evening prep routine, they learn that academic habits can be acquired. Almost one hundred percent of our Grade 12 class graduates apply to, and are accepted at university, from U.B.C. and McGill, to Berkley, Princeton, and MIT.
Brentwood teachers choose a uniquely challenging and rewarding vocation: to focus on developing character and community, as well as curriculum. As Brentonians, they are also involved in athletics and the arts. Teaching at Brentwood is a lifestyle, as well as a profession. Many who come make it their life's work.
Educated at distinguished universities in many countries (Canada, England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Jamaica, South Africa, France, and China), Brentwood teachers form a community of leaders and learners, committed to their own professional development and dedicated as mentors and pathfinders for the students in their care.
To teach with passion and commitment to our challenging symphony of academics, athletics and the arts, to focus on character as well as curriculum as educators in partnership with parents, to develop critical thinkers, team players and creative, ethical individuals, to be mentors and pathfinders for all students as they discover their unique strengths, and find joy in contributing to the good of the community.

Students choose to board at Brentwood because they want to be challenged: academically, athletically, in the arts, and as people.
Brentwood students have not been "sent away" by unhappy parents. Their families continue to be as involved in their school lives as much as geography permits. With email and phone, keeping in touch between visits home is easier than ever. Parents receive a weekly electronic newsletter from the Head of School. They can also read the student perspective about the week's events and activities on the "Brentwood Blog".
Keeping busy with healthy activities within a positive peer group is the best offence against what is becoming an increasingly toxic culture for teenagers. It has been shown that the boarding experience helps students develop self-discipline, maturity, independence, time management, and leadership skills.
Students appreciate the abundant athletic, creative, social, and leadership opportunities, and say that the boarding school experience gave them friends for life.
