The Russian School of Mathematics (RSM) was created in Boston 15 years ago. Today, RSM has over 6,000 students in more than a dozen branches located in 5 states. This fall, we are very excited to be opening a Russian School of Mathematics in Naperville, IL, just 30 miles west of Chicago. RSM provides a unique, award-winning after-school mathematics enrichment program, based on the best practices of advanced math schools in Russia and Europe and adapted to the U.S. educational environment. We teach students at all levels - elementary school, middle school, high school and home school.
Our mission is to build a solid math foundation and develop a student's critical thinking ability with a well structured curriculum and dedicated teachers. Since 1997, we have provided a world-class math education with an emphasis on problem solving skills and critical thinking. The best description of our program's success comes from an RSM parent: "...RSM teaches kids to think, to make connections between mathematical concepts, to utilize critical thinking and build upon previous concepts to solve new problems".
The RSM program was developed based on classical traditions of systematic math education. Our goal is to help children build a solid foundation for future success in taking the SAT and college mathematics. We provide our students with a thorough understanding of every mathematical concept and help them develop excellent problem solving skills.
The goal of RSM is to give children a solid foundation of math knowledge. To do it well, we build it gradually and thoroughly - rather than providing a quick fix for problems and gaps. Every new idea, every block of new information needs time to get absorbed in a child's brain. Every new skill needs to be practiced for sufficient length of time to make it "stick", and it needs to be repeatedly retrieved for new applications. This is why we offer a whole academic year program, with weekly classes and homework. This seems like a big commitment - but we believe that this is the most effective and the least stressful way for kids to really learn math.
The cornerstone of our program is the famous Russian teaching methodology, first suggested by Russian developmental psychologist L. Vygotsky and later developed by V. Davydov. One of it's important features is the early introduction of algebra. This idea is just beginning to gain recognition in the US. The proven result of this methodology is true understanding of every math concept by a student and his/her ability to independently apply logical reasoning to even unfamiliar types of complex multi-step problems.

Montessori Academy Spanish Immersion (MASI), located in the north side of Oak Park, north western Chicago in Cook County, Illinois, is a private home montessori academy offering 100% Spanish Immersion for children 15 months to 12 years of age. Child's Play Touring Theatre, based in Chicago, Illinois, is a private touring theatre company offering workshops, residencies, after school programs, and summer camps across the USA. Child's Play Touring Theatre travels all over the country performing stories and poems written by children. Our mission is to share, encourage and validate the creativity of children by performing original works of theatre, music, and dance adapted from literature written by young authors. Through performances, workshops and intensive residencies, Child's Play is a touring company that has reached an audience of over 4.2 million children, teachers and parents in 38 states.
