AFDA:
With campuses in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth, AFDA is one of the leading film schools in the world. With state-of-the-art facilities, AFDA teaches students to conceptualize, create, and develop innovative products and commodities for the local and international market.
The school's full name is The South African School of Motion Picture Medium and Live Performance.
AFDA was established in Johannesburg in 1994 and is currently situated on a 10 000 square metre campus within a stone's throw of the national TV broadcaster, the SABC.
Fondly known as Jo'burgers, the six million strong population of this vibrant melting pot includes all major Southern African ethnicities, plus thousands of Western, Eastern and Central Africans and EU residents.
Established in 2003, AFDA Cape Town is situated in Observatory on a 7000 square metre site in a quaint historical area just outside the CBD where Victorian architecture, industrial enterprise and trendy watering holes form a fascinating and eclectic mix.
The glorious locations, the 15-hour long summer days, the intensity of the light, the world class facilities, the favourable exchange rate and the top-notch technical film crews all combine to make Cape Town one of the first choices for overseas productions.
The AFDA Durban campus, established in 2013 celebrated the official opening on the 11th February 2013 with the pioneering group of 1st years.
AFDA Durban may be the youngest of campuses but is rich with diverse culture and a strong work ethic and ethos on the student body taking into account the values of AFDA: Passion, Integrity, Hard Work, Reliability and Humility.
Port Elizabeth is known as the friendly city and is renowned for its pristine and accessible beaches and outdoor lifestyle. It has a very strong cultural history and provides a student friendly environment with excellent accommodation and is a host to a large body of international students.
AFDA PE will be relocating to their permanent campus site for the 2016 academic year. The new site will initially occupy the library building of the original University of Port Elizabeth.
